I have a 2005 leon cupra r running stage 1 revo. I boost about 24-25 psi and am 99% sure am getting wastegate chatter when on boost. Could this be because i need to set the actuator up for higher boost? Thanks

thats high boost... and you want more?

got rods?

you will need them

Jesus... Read the post. Am asking if i need to adjust the actuator for the higher boost the cars running from the map. Since am now getting wastegate chatter. I dont want anymore boost.

I suggest YOU Read your own post

Hardly unambiguous is it..... :p

What way was his reply jokey or helpfull? Telling me 'you will need new rods'

Anyway this is way of topic...

Lets get back to it. If someone can help.

He said you will need them as you said about high boost. Nothing wrong with that it's a fact and he would know.

running that sort of boost you will need rods. Ibizacupra is a respected tuner on here and knows these engines through and through. he was simply trying to make you aware that running any more boost on the standard rods your more than likely to throw a rod through the block.

if you was looking to run higher boost and wasn't told about this you would probably come back saying why didn't anyone warn you!

This is getting silly now. I see now my first comment was worded abit wrong. And to clear this up i am NOT looking to get higher boost. What am trying to say is because my cars running higher boost after the map am staring to get wastegate chatter. So i was wondering how to adjust the actuator to stop this.

chatter is not actuator dude

if you fit an actuator which is stiffer than the std one you will likely end up with a larger spike of boost, as the pid control will loose control of requested boost on spool.. Boost onset will shoot past resulting in high boost, high torque spike which is Risking your Engines rods

Your car has a boost request on normal mapping.. messing with a non std actuator without mapping tailored to suit risks damage.

Your noise, such as its been described thus far is wastegate chatter, which is not actuator related in reality.

Is it a flutter on gear changes?

The actuator rod needed adjusted, Just as i thought.

Chatter mabie wasn't the best word to describe it but borgwarner call it "boost droop" basically the boost going flat at hight revs. Instead of the air going through the turbo it was creeping round thought the wastegate higher up the revs and giving me the chatter noise. Just a tiny bit preload on the actuator and sorted.

This is one thing I would like to know.
You can add the Forge Actuator if you just a want a different better sound even if the car is not mapped.
What you would need to do is use the standard spring. Then you should be good.

nothing like chatter...

small turbo wont be holding boost at engines high revs, the compressor is out of puff simply.

Healthy K03s cars will hold 12psi at 6krpm
Healthy K04 cars will hold 18psi at 6krpm

weakening actuators is becoming more common with age, but dont expect a stiff actuator (and >5psi is stiffer than std) to allow it to magic up compressor flow as it wont

Adding a stiffer actuator, significantly higher than the 5psi std, can result in extreme overboost on spool... Beware!
