I'm due a replacement clutch and looking at my options, I'm not sure whether to go SMF or DMF. The car is a 2007 Cupra.

Has anyone had any experience with this kit from Darkside?http://www.darksidedevelopments.co....ywheel-smf-clutch-kit-for-vw-02q-6-speed.html

Just wondering how much noise/chatter a SMF will cause as well, I understand it's a bit quieter on the petrol cars compared to diesel, but would be good to know how loud it is?

SMF all the way

its not that loud but i do have a silent version, not sure what the difference is to be honest :)

The "silent" version is the clutch that got a softer sprung hub. It has nothing to do with the flywheel (i haven´t seen a singel difference yet at least)

Its there to mimic the use of a dual mass flywheel.

And for me, i couldn´t live with a SMF again. Its just so annoying when you first hear that sound. Especially at coasting or idling. Engine breaking is also pretty scary so you quickly stop that.

Remember, those gear noises you hear, thats the gear wheels in the gearbox getting slammed together very frequently ~ not nice.

Dmf gets my vote. Been running mine for some time coupled with a Sachs organic clutch and its been spot on. Taken a fair amount of abuse as well.

Haha I asked them for a quote and it was the biggest number I've ever seen.

Lmaooo

Dunno anywhere else mate, what about statller? Can imagine them being expensive too

I'm lucky as I have a local garage to me who charges f**k all for labour and he knows his stuff in regard to VAG cars

And you will pass this info on to me. Along with chocolate for keeping it from me for so long.

My first question is what power do you want to run?

Secondly can you cope with a bit of rattle?

I will always go single mass as dual is prone to fail with when tuning a lot.

If I was just running a map + exhaust I might go dual...

Also I'm fine with engine braking on all my SMF's and no gears get slammed?

Either way fit it yourself!

Enjoy

So you dont have gear noise when engine breaking?

Not that I can notice? I change my gearbox oil with genuine VW every time I do my clutch or anything similar.

Nice for you then, but is it because everything else is so noisy? :D

Problem is, when the engine revolutions gets lower the time between each counter act gets bigger (more vibrations through the crankshaft) and those get transfered unhindered (bar the little spring in the clutch) in a SMF setup. Its those noises you can hear (and that OFC is most noticeable when trying to take off at low rpms and engine breaking at lower rpms) Idle with clutch engaged you will also hear the classic chatter sound.

I know of the "silent" versions out there, but it kind of defeat the purpose of it, cause you still got a soft sprung hub (like the dual mass)

And some people report of the silent version not working for all^^
