Hi, I'm new to this forum. Looking at buying a tfsi fr or a TDI fr if I can find one, they'll be dsg's. Would like to hear any pros n cons on running them, found a couple of tfsi's but struggling finding a 170 BHP TDI. Any thoughts. Cheers Greg

Depends on the mileage you do I suppose, if you don't have to worry about running costs get the tfsi. I love tdi torque but miss the petrol smoothness. Loads of fr tdi's for sale lol

Go for a TFSI

I have an Altea TFSI with DSG and it is a lovely thing.
Prior to this I had an Octavia VRS PD TDI which is the same engine as the Altea FR TDI.
The TFSI is much faster.
The TDI engine is as rough as a badger's a**e compared to the TFSI and a very agricultural driving experience.
The TFSI is a bit more expensive on fuel but gains on being cheaper on overall running costs than a TDI.
The FR TDI was not available with a DSG box.
You can probably see what I would advise!

Thanks for your coments,
I'm off to see a tfsi Wednesday, just scrolled the net and read a few reviews all positive.
Cheers Greg

How about getting a good spec TDI then having it remapped it to FR spec?
My remap was £200, totally transformed the driving experience in every way ie.......better throttle response, overtaking, tractability & improved mpg (as long as you drive "normally")

Just a thought.

Yeah I'd agree my tdi140 has no DPS filter also been remapped to 170 bhp .....love it , cheap to run and 50+ mpg and no DPS to worry about
