Both are manual

Yes the £7k has 1k less mileage but is a year older, surely that's a good thing though?

To be honest the £7k is the best price ive found for that mileague, model and year

I'm going tomorrow, well the £7k one is 38 miles, the other is closer to Birmingham which is about 80 miles. So I'm hoping when I see the first I'll just go for that one

Its an independent garage, would you guys recommend doing my own HPI check? Not sure how honest the garage is as I'm not from the area.

And if yes, how does it work, are there a few different providers, whos best/cheapest

Big mistake to go for the first one you see. If its too far to go for the alternative, then at least go and see some other Leons you wouldnt necessarily be thinking of buying which are closer to get a measure of the quality you should expect for the cost.

That said, me and a mate went looking at cars, each of the 7 cars we saw after the first one underlined how clean and honest and well serviced the first one was, and a decent price too. He ended up buying the first one and it broke down on him twice, patched up under warranty both times until it went wrong a third time and he cut his losses.

Thats the magic of buying a used motor. :)

Any doubts about buying 2nd hand have just come back!!

Your right, and ideally I'd want to look over a period of months but I just don't have the time

Just the chance you take. A too good to be true 16k mile FR on my doorstep which i fell in love with threw limp mode on the test drive. Long story short I walked away and ended up buying a Cupra 200 odd miles away I went down to see in grimsby.

Almost forgot to a ask

Other than the stuff generic to all cars x Amy seat or leon specific issues on the car I should be looking for when inspecting test driving etc, its my first diesel so ill try not to be too shocked at the noise!!

Uneven tyre wear (special attention to inside edge)

Bonnet insulation mouldy/wet/sagging.

Not much else leons suffer with. Obviously check it over like any used car, receipts, stamps make sure it's been looked after. Check for any bodywork done.

The 1.6 tdi sounds quite tight for a diesel/VAG my neighbour has an S-line A1.

Check inside edge of rear tyres for wear, can mean 4 wheel alignment is out, common Leon problem. Bonnet linings go mouldy, again a common problem and the original 'fix' is a bit hit and miss. Good luck!
Bigbadjay you beat me to it!!

Yea it's quite refined for a diesel (4cyl?) and such a low displacement.

Iv never looked under the bonnet and heard it idling but if I'm on the drive and he pulls up sounds perfectly ok

As way of update chaps, got there and it was already being test driven, they came back in and bought it! Wasted trip

Got a quick look the partial shelf was broken and the rear calipers looked a mess.

At least that's what i told myself while driving home. Going tomorrow to see the other one (8k)

There's a 2010 golf down that way too, is that basically the same car?

Golf is basically the same car but you won't get any kit in it for your budget compared to the leon, they're a lot more expensive and everything's an optional extra.

The more expensive one sounds better anyway - the seat approved used warranty (if that's what it is) is well worth having just incase. Much better than any aftermarket one.

Sorry I mis advised , it has full seat service history. The 12 month warranty is with warranty wise. Ive never has warranty but have never heard a good thing about aftermarket ones. Everything is wear n tear!!

Update. Purchased the Léon yesterday.
1.6tdi cr emicion copa black
I knocked himndown all of....100quid. Also upped thé labour rate on the warranty he was going to include from 35pph to 75pph.

Engine and hear Box great, m'y first diesel and takes some getting used to! Cruising at 30mph seems to be à 30mph thing, it was 5th in m'y 1.4petrol. Love the pickup with the turbo
Playing around with thé cruise contrôl, seem to get better consumption without it

Has anybody identified thé optimal cruising speed and gear, 5th and 60mph ? Revs sit just below 1.5k. Was 3k on thé astra!!

Thanks for all thé advise guys really helped when viewing/picking the car

Not had one myself but a friend of mine had a 2011 1.6tdi ecomotive and its a peach, punchy engine effortless for motorway cruises and pretty quick too was never too far behind me in my cupra :) I dont think yoj can go wrong with a 1.6tdi ecomotive even with my mate giving it some stick he still got the high 50s mpg. Also tax free I believe :) the only other car I could recommend as I bought one as the family car, is the ford cmax surprisingly the most comfortable car ive ever driven 2.0tdi non dpf ghia.

Warranties in any form are not worth the paper they are written on of you look into your statutory rights any car sold other than as seen I.e fit for a purpose is protected by uk law
