can anyone give me a clue on where to start on my 06 leon fr rear wheel alignment . i recently rotated my tyres and when i took the back drivers rear wheel off the tyre on one side was down to the wire on the inside and new on the outer and when i had a closer look from the rear the wheel is leaning inwards and pushing all the wieght on to the inside off the tyre witch has destroyed a new tyre ive had it in at local garage who mentioned it need alligning witch didnt sound right as its only started doing this recently ive had the wheel check its fine so its either a axel problem or suspension but theres a lot of parts on the rear suspension so can anyone give me clue on what part to change first as i carnt afford a new tyre every couple of weekls lol thanks :D
 
Get a full 4 wheel laser alignment done on it.

The mk5 golf platform is known for heavy wear on the inside edge of the rear tyres due to the camber set up. However you can improve it.

My car is on coilovers so is lower than standard yet my camber is good and I don't have excess wear on the inside edge.
 
As Jarre said , get the 4 wheel alignment checked. However if its that bad that you can A. See it and B. wearing a tyre to the wire that quick then I think you may have bigger issues with the suspension or other damage.
 
Get the alignment checked. The camber might be fine but if the wheel is toed out that will eat the inside edge too
 
yeah it is that bad and you can see it but its only started over the last month before that ive had the car 3 years and never had a problem i put a second hand tire on 2 days ago and today went to buy a new one and the old tyre wasw knackerd all the inside wall was cracked the tyre bloke reconds be cause all the wieght is on the inside edge its going back to the garage tmz i love the car and gutted i carnt drive it ggrrrr thanks for the advice lads
 
no mate sorry i had the original tyre on from new and only bought a part worn coz i knew it was eating the tyre and its going for repair and mot tmz so had to buy a new tyre today for mot hopefully tmz lol
 
2 tyres in two weeks ? :blink: have you checked the wheel bearings not shot? Have you noticed any noise, vibration, drag, fuel consumption increase ?

you know what m8 i think you might be right when i was on the motorway it was abit noisey at the back ive had bearings go before and i know the sound m8 will get it checked tmz thanks for that tip m8 the garage i use is really good thanks again m8
 
There's a couple of older threads on this topic - But Getting Laser alignment might not actually "help" (unless you do have other issues) because the fancy Laser wheel aligment machines look up a database for OEM aligment specs and the OEM specs run quite negative (giving you the inside wear). So the machine will say the aligment is "OK". You might have to get it set up manually.

If he's gone through two tyres in as many weeks I think he most certainly has 'other issues' possible wheel bearing or suspension damage. Even getting it back to OEM spec would be an improvement.... ;)
 
If it wasnt wearing badly two week ago but now is and nothing has hit the wheel theres an issue somewhere.
Check:
Wheel bearing(more than likely be humming or have play)
All bushes on that side including trailing arm.

All alignment data on our Hunter machine is taken from manufacturer specs

Is there anything to suggest this is necessary? Surely if you haven't had anything suspension related fail and haven't smacked into any curbs really hard then it shouldn't be something that drifts?
 
Ah ok, yeah. But even so, I think you'd have to be pretty aggressive with speed bumps for it to actually push the wheel alignment out.

I've certainly not experienced any such problems with other cars, and I've had the Leon for about 18 months now without any such issues manifesting.

I'm not so sure, UK roads are so scarred, it's not just speed bumps that cause the alignment to get knocked. Every pothole will add up over time.

If you get it checked regularly you would probably find it slightly out each time. It is just such a shame that the price of 4 wheel alignment is so much higher than it used to be!
