FR 1.4 TSI stop/start

Does the Leon FR have stop/start??

I test drove one last week but it never cut out at junctions, and the dealer wasn't really sure
if it was supposed to?

Yes it does, although mine won't always activate. Particularly for the first 5mins or so from starting. it will show on the speedo display whether it is activated or not

Is there some sort of time delay or does it wait until the engine is up to temperature, or similar?

Can it be enabled/disabled?

Yep it does, The car has alot of requirements for it to activate although mine does usually work all the time.

Your seatbelt must also be fastened for it to activate.

Did you drop the car into neutral and raise the clutch as it won't cut out when the clutch is down in gear as you would normally be at junctions?

If anything like my old BMW 123d, it will also have lots of other parameters such as engine temperature, outside temperature, battery voltage, drain on alternator etc that determine if it kicks in or not.

I did put the car into neutral and clutch raised. I think the dealer should have been able to explain the situation though!

The only obvious explanation is that ChrisG mentioned the battery voltage, if the car has been stood on the forecourt then it may be low on charge?

Climate control is probably most likely.

Yes, the climate control was active.

Many thanks for the advice. Picking the car up tomorrow, waving goodbye to my Skoda Superb - so don't tell the Briskoda guys I've defected!

The car won't do it for the first 5 minutes if the heater is on, that uses the coolant heat through a radiator in the dash (heater matrix), until the coolant is hot enough it won't get heat in to the cabin, so it turns off start/stop until coolant is hot enough to give hot air in the cabin, at which point it will then allow start/stop... Makes sense as you'd be sitting in traffic freezing and wondering why the heaters won't work!

Is there an option to permanently turn off the Start/Stop system on the MK3? I really hate it and its bad for the turbo.

Yes, you can disable S/S via VCDS.

Bad for the turbo as in oil/lubricant stops running through? I'd have thought SEAT would have covered that one, seems a no-brainer!

Been discussed at length already on the forum if you have a search.

General consensus was that it's fine unless you've been driving very hard in which case you should drive at normal pace for a few mins before letting the engine switch off.

Or switch off S/S with dash button just before you arrive home, and idle for a couple of mins before turning off engine, as in handbook.
