hi everyone just wanted to know if anyone had brought any tuning boxes from TDI-Tuning.co.uk? if so what were the results? im looking at buying the PDd tuning box and wanted to make sure their quoted after figures are at least somewhere close.
Now i don't want anyone to say get a proper remap, it will be better. there are reasons i want a tuning box, i just don't want to be ripped off.
Any reply would be great

this is the link to the device,

Surely at that price you'd rather go for a proper remap than a plug and play box? They are usually generic maps , what guarantees does it have? At least something done on a rolling road can be tuned and tweaked for your vehicle

It's not even a generic map, its a device that intercepts the signals from various engine management sensors, and manipulates them to fool the ECU in to adding more fuel and boost to make more power.

DTUK are a forum sponsor, plenty have used their tuning boxes. Why not take a look?

No idea how the 1.9 TDI and the old EDC15 ECU respond to them though, and given that most turbos on these 10+ year old cars have boost control issues caused by a seized or partially seized VNT mechanisms, i'm not sure i'd try one either.

*Edit* looking at the image from the link, this one plugs in to the injector loom, so it will only alter fuelling.

All the box does is confuse the car into thinking that the fuel temperature is cold and that the fuel pressure is low. It's very crude and nowhere near as good as a decent remap. I've used them in the past but would never have another box fitted to any car. Get a proper remap from the likes of Revo, R-Tech, APR etc.....

Thanks for the reply's.
I'm looking into DTUK now as there is plenty of people on this forum who have used them with good reviews as far as i can tell so far. Only reason for not wanting a full remap is my FR150 has done 170K miles and not sure how the clutch or turbo would hold out. This way there is multiple maps that can be switched if any slipping was to happen.

Jabba sport aren't too far from you, they're in Peterborough. The box is basically a digitised variable resistor setup, it's pretty crude. A custom remap will allow you to tailor low end torque specifically with clutch and flywheel in mind. The box can't do this.

At 170k you're extremely lucky to be on the original clutch even at standard power. The 1.9 Tdis have pretty aggressive torque delivery in standard tune. Any amount of tuning will shorten the life of the clutch and flywheel. It might be an idea to budget for a clutch replacement before you hasten it's demise with more power.
