I have not yet referred this to a dealer but am wondering if anyone else has encountered similar and resolved. My ST is four months old and I recently noticed that the shelf was slack/loose on the nearside when pulled out to cover the luggage compartment. Transpires that the plastic catch that retains the shelf on that side has 'gone'. I can't work out if this is hard moulded and has broken or if it is a slide-in part. It was definitely working from new and I suspect that the catch has disappeared behind the upholstery trim lining the boot. I've fiddled around, not contemplating removing the trim, but haven't located the bit. I'm thinking it seems a complicated deal for such a small item.

When I had several trim issues on a golf mark 6 the dealer told me vag only accept warranty requests on that type of thing up to 6000 miles... Six thousand. They don't tell you that in the brochure.

Is seat the same I wonder? This boot latch thing is it trim or mechanical??

I had exactly this issue about a week after I picked up my ST FR in October last year. Spoke to the dealer who ordered the part in and replaced it under warranty. Was quite a big job as the little shelf catch is part of the big plastic piece which the shelf slides in so it all has to be replaced as one, lots of trim removal needed. It's a very flimsy part so not surprised it broke, sure there will be lots more who will have the same problem before long.

Thanks for that info - my ST is under 6,000 so I'll get it in pronto.

My feelings also. When puzzling it over I came to the conclusion that it was likely a tedious and significant input to put right such a small, but required, item. Design needs to be more robust and operation of the shelf by the user somewhat tender.
Appreciate you taking the time to relate your experience; I know now how to proceed.

I agree, I'm delighted with mine after 6000 miles. I've got the 1.4 ACT engine and I think it's a great package.
The shelf clip is the only problem I've had, in fact I'd forgotten all about it until the original posting in this thread!

Same here, hasn't missed a beat so far
It is booked in for warranty work in the middle of the month. First reaction from service desk was 'no way'; was getting the line that it had to be mechanical and that breakage not covered. A lot of gentle response and persuasion that something used a half dozen times, and not abused, doesn't break unless there's a design problem or manufacturing fault, or both, brought out the service manager who was first class. He inspected the shelf and immediately filed the claim with no argument. Will update when concluded.

All repaired satisfactorily a few weeks back and it feels more robust now. Dealer said it was just the catch not the whole unit. I noticed subsequently that at the top of the lining a set of plastic lugs on that unit was visible from inside the boot and positioned 'holding' the trim, whereas before that was not the case as they must have been behind the trim and could not be seen. Had no problem fixing that on the spot when I called back to pick-up some paint. Dealer, not where I purchased, was most helpful,
When in, there was a recall on the hazard warning switch that was dealt with - reports of sticking.

Didn't pay a lot of attention as I had not experienced any issue, but I think I recall mention of a foam strip being fitted.

The offside plastic clip that holds the luggage cover in place snapped of this morning as I was driving to work and the clover slid back.

The little catch has disappeared inside the offside rear wing area.

My car is 23 months old and has done only 31,000 miles and has been treated like a child. I am not happy at all.

Does anyone know what the options are to get this sorted out and how much it is going to cost?

Thanks

Sounds similar to my experience. If you have not found it, there is a similar thread here with some helpful suggestions:

Won't let me post url - item is headed "Costly broken ST parcel shelf pins", last post 17/08 currently on page 24. Good luck.

Thanks mate, mine is the other problem. The luggage cover is fine, it is the tiny clip that sits inside of the track that that luggage cover slides in and is part of the car. It seems to have fallen into the side of the wing.

I really am fed up that a car costing 28K would have a cheap bit of plastic as the means to hold a parcel shelf. My old Vectra B estate did 140,000 miles and the luggage cover was used every day and it pulled and latched into a proper moulded retaining cup that couldn't be broken if you tried.

I have used this cover maybe once every week at the most and the rest of my car is like new.

Sounds as if that is the same fault I, and Conal, had as described above; I also suspect that the clip disappeared behind the trim lining in the boot. Wasn't a problem getting the dealer obtain the part and correct. Fortunately the job was done under warranty so no idea what it would have cost - might be worth prodding them as there does seem to be a demonstrable issue with the concept.

I have just bought a leon and my parcel shelf doesnt stay out, it does have the pins/tabs in the retractable part but doesnt lock into place when pulled out, is it possible there is a part missing from the end of the runner that the retractable bit should click into?

The end of the runner when fully extended clips into a pair of these within the sides of your car boot, they have a habit of either falling out or snapping.

Check to see if yours is actually there, mine fell out into the cavity between the bodywork and the boot side panel!
