A nice side effect of the warmer weather over the last couple of days is a reasonable difference in the mpg on my 5 door FR 184.

I do repeated 150 mile round trips up the M40/M42 from Oxford to Bromsgrove, with the cruise set to 70 I tend to get 60 mpg but on both legs today I have averaged over 67 mpg, with average for the whole tank (just under 600 miles currently) showing almost 61 mpg. Pretty staggering considering the performance on offer imho.

Drove down the M1 a couple of days ago between Junctions 13 and 5. This is some 24 miles. There was some traffic but it was moving nicely. The speed restrictions between J13 and J10 were set at 60mph. I activated the cruise control and only had to slow down once. Without speed restrictions after J10 I increased the speed to 70 mph and I had to slow down two or three times. I averaged 63mph, including the 2 miles from the office car park to J13 on motorway. Pretty impressed.

I'm still struggling to get mpg above 50-52 consistently, I don't understand how everyone seems to be getting 60 odd, or is that just on the odd trip as reported by computer?

I've been calculating mpg tank to tank rather than relying on computer.

It has increased recently with warm weather though... from 49mpg to 52mpg.

Yep im the same, struggle to see how people are getting 60 mpg
Surely you need to drive like a nun on the way to church on a Sunday morning

as a side, you'd think you'd get less mpg when it's hot, having the aircon on etc, not to mention colder air being more dense

I calculate true(-ish) MPG tank by tank also. I find that the MPG computer is optimistic. For instance last tank was 55.1 mpg calculated and the computer was saying 57.9 since refuel...

My previous Volvo V40 computer was similarly optimistic.

I do drive as smoothly as poss, and don't rev it too much. Rarely above 3k rpm.
mostly country roads, and you can't cane it for long, except on a couple of bypasses, and they're favourite spots for the "safety camera" van....
But on a longer run at around 75-80 it does 60.
most of the time I drive 8 miles into Hitchin or Bedford and it shows 50-55, depending on whether anyone's in front. Normally you're in a procession at 50-60, and I keep around 1500-2k rpm in 4th or 5th.
Not like a hearse, but not like I stole it....

Being gentle with the accelerator pedal is also quite important. Feathering it to bring the speed up gradually makes a difference to how much fuel you use. Using a combination of this along with the suggestions above all help to squeeze a few more MPG out of the car.

This is on the computer or calculated fill to fill? My computer often specifies 60+mpg on the 30 mile trip to work, but measured average MPG is a lot less. I still think the car is very frugal on fuel [B)] but not as frugal as the computer would have you believe.

If you have VCDS you can correct the error in the system

Do the brim to brim actual calcs - then compare them to the computer figures.

The system will allow a % correction to be put in so it is more accurate.

It was the first time I've got 63 mph on a journey, but then I have had the car since October. It was an unusual journey... constant speed and once I was on the M1 the car barely accelerated. The weather was good too, some 21 degrees.

I used to get anything between 40 to 47 mph during the winter months on my 15-miles trip to work with some traffic. Now I get 50 to 55. I avoid harsh accelerations and I don't rev the engine. Traffic plays an important role too. I always get a better mpg going to work than going home.

I sometimes doubt the accuracy of the computer because some days I get 45, some other days 55 on the same journey and I don't understand why because I would say the road conditions were about the same.

Over the winter my long term mpg in FR184 has been 47 (as per the computer). Last week did a 600 mile round trip without refuelling and a computer reading of 57mpg. Not bad but shouldn't it be better?

Talking about how accurate the computer is...

I've just refuelled. The computer said that I've covered 506 miles since the last refuel, the remaining range was 40 miles and I averaged 51.3 mpg.

I put in 46 litres. This is 10.12 gallons. That comes up to 50 mpg making the computer deviation of 2.5% but this allows the fact that there was a different quantity of fuel in the tank as you can never add fuel to the exact level especially because I normally add 2 or 3 extra litres after the pump stops by itself.

Used to check all the time but whats the point I have a Cupra, a part from buying another car to get more mpg, it is what it is.

That's pretty accurate. Up to now I've had a wider deviation but not really had the car long enough to say if thats likely to be a permanent state of affairs. I'm sure accuracy is also affected by different tyre sizes as they will have slightly different rolling circumference. My experience with previous computers is they tend to be optimistic though.

I'll definitely keep an eye on this and report back in a few months - it'll take that long for me to rack up enough miles to know

Just got a 184 DSG X-perience. Getting about 44mpg driving fairly gently as only done 1000 miles so far. Just hoping it does improve as engine and transmission settles and smooths in. Official figures say 57mpg combined and I live in rural Devon where traffic on my way to work is a stupid grouse wandering across the road.
And I'm still figuring out best way of driving DSG. Never had an auto before but at least only put my left foot on the brake a couple of times when I first took delivery:).

Did that just the once in my first DSG Cupra on the day I collected it, the mrs thought she was going thru the windscreen, and how the guy behind me didn't run into the back of me I'll never know, scary.

Tanked up yesterday and measured the consumption properly, 59.3 mpg over the tank.

Speed makes a huge difference to things, same 150 miles yesterday. On the way up at 65 mph I averaged 65 mpg on the way back going with the flow at closer to 80 I got 52.5 mpg.
