Hi All,

I'm soon going to be meeting up with a fellow forum member for some VAGCOM changes and would like anyone's thoughts/opinions. So far I've got the following on my list:

- Cornering fog lights OFF
- Big MPH display on MFD ON
- Seatbelt chime OFF
- Lock/Unlock beep (would like to try it to see if I like it, hopefully this is easy/quick enough to do)
- Bulb warning OFF - Am wanting to replace my indicators, number plate lights and sidelights with LEDs so am thinking turning this off to stop any unwanted warnings as it sounds like some of the Cambus Error Free lights can be a bit hit or miss)
- Needle 'staging' ON
- DSG re calibration - read about this on the Golf GTI MKV forums.. Not sure if it applies to my car but I do have some stuttering in 1st after heavy driving or when switching to Neutral after long periods in Sport.
- Volume reduction of parking sensors

I'm also looking at putting some LEDs into the door sills and footwells so if there are any settings which will assist with this then I'd like to change them in advance while I have the opportunity.

Not sure if this helps, but it has the following factory fitted optional extras:
- Xenon lights with washers
- Auto lights, wipers and rear view mirror.
- 2C Climate control with heated leather seats
- Front/Rear parking sensors with visual indicator
- RNS310 with sat nav, bluetooth phone

I think that's about it.. Thanks in advance for any comments or suggestions.

I didn't think you could turn bulb warning off?

To disable the bulb warning light you need to switch off "Cold Diagnosis" for each of the bulb circuits. The difficulty comes with the need to change the value of Byte 18 in the BCM. The original value is masked/hidden so if you start fiddling with the value, you have no idea what original value to set it back to again afterwards if everything goes wrong. On top of that, with random fiddling there is also a risk of damaging the BCM so it's a complete minefield.

Some people have managed to ruin their cars by playing with Byte 18 in VCDS which has then required a costly visit to the dealer to either get the BCM reset back to factory settings again or in the worst case to have the BCM replaced completely if it has been damaged.

While disabling the cold diagnosis bulb circuits can't easily be achieved using VCDS without an element of risk, it can be done using VCP which allows direct access to individual memory cells within the BCM, some of which control the "Cold Diagnosis" configuraion for each circuit. This level of individual memory cell access isn't possible with VCDS.

@Speed-FReek:
Thx for the detailed info on that one. Sounds like more hassle than it's worth.. I'll need to make sure I get decent bulbs then so I avoid the errors

Some decent can bus compatible error free smd bulbs FTW! :)

It's not a link. It's an acronymn meaning "For The Win". If you hover over the letters with a mouse cursor, an interesting description pops up :D

Hehe yeah I know the acronym and saw the description but on my phone it tries to open it in a new tab. I thought it was a link to another thread discussing bulbs or something lol

Emergency brake flash.. How does that work? I assume the brake lights flash a number of times under heavy braking or something?

The system tends to already be set to flash the hazards under emergency brake conditions but you have the option of brake lights or hazards.
