Evening.

Just wondering if there has been a decision made recently for you not to be able to get the 150BHP 2.0 on the SE model of the leaon sport coupe.

I have one (1 year old now) and thought i would have a look on their website to see how much it would have been new, but it only gives you the option to take 1.6TDI 5 speed or 7 speed.

And that is one of the many reasons why Seat hasn't made a profit for ten years. This strategy of theirs to sit the FR 'above' the SE is a big mistake... I for one won't buy an FR model at all, I bought an SE and specced it up to the same level as I don't like the FRs.I can't see why the SE should get a raw deal when it comes to engines. SE should be a comfortable alternative to the FR, not a poor relation. If they start telling people what they can and can't have rather than just asking the customer what he wants, they can expect those growing Leon sales to fall.

It annoys me that Seat think you want a small engine just because you don't want an FR. I wanted the 1.4 with a DSG but it wasn't available... Now they have no higher power diesel engine for the SC SE... What are they playing at? I've seen a few of these on the second hand market up to now, so it isn't as if there's no market for it.

I suppose they should reserve the more "sporty" engines for the sports models......but personally I reckon this should be the more powerful petrol engines and the 184 diesel.

150tdi is not a sporty engine and it's mid range performer so shouldn't be reserved for the sporty models.

Just my opinion.

The only thing I don't like about my SE is the alloys. They're just rubbish looking lol If I threw in some fr alloys or something it would be ideal

I know what you mean, not everyone wants a good car that's sporty looking. All they need to do is throw an SE-L model into the range, design it to have a bit of class, maybe a different upholstery, led interior lights and climate then give it the 2.0 diesel and 1.4 ACT aswell as the other lower powered engines.

Spot on.

SE golfs are not lesser than sporty golfs. Neither are A3s. Leon is a bit of an outsider in this respect. I can understand the restriction on the S entry point, but on the SE it is just a put off for many people, and Seat appear determined to force people into FRs. All they'll do is force otherwise loyal customers to look elsewhere, which is what I'll be doing. What ridiculous marketing decisions they are making lately.

To be honest, everything single advert I have seen on the Tele, internet, magazines and even Seats own website is always of the FR model and 90% of the seats I see today are FR's.
Before the new releases, so up to mk4's the FR was something a bit more special, now it's just the norm lol

FR now is pretty much a trim level rather than anything else. ( But that is what the market wants - low powered but nice looking )

The FR used to be the bigger engine, bigger brake, lowered version of the car but now you can get an FR in almost any engine you want.

The same happened with the Ibiza.
Almost impossible to tell if the FR was a 1.2petrol or a 2.0TDi from the outside.

You see that's the thing, nobody would expect that. However, if you want an SE with a petrol engine you've got a choice of two slow versions. I understand why on an 'S', but not all of this is budget driven. My SE cost over £22k. I could have had an FR for that. However, after three heart attacks I need to be a bit more comfortable and am limited to a DSG transmission. It would have been nice to have the option to get there both comfortably AND quickly. I don't expect the top spec 1.8 to be made available on the SE, but why does Seat assume that because I want a comfortable car I also want a slow one? There is no good reason, to my mind, not to offer the ACT and the TDi 150 on SE trimmed cars.

Has anyone else noticed that on the configurator you can no longer select leather seats on an SE either... Why? If the customer wants it and is willing to pay for it, what difference is it to them?

I just did a quick double check. If you select an ST SE on the config only one option appears for the interior. Cloth - Black Ona. There used to be four options here, black cloth with black dash, grey cloth with two tone dash, and two different leather options. None of those appear now. Strange!

Totally agree about the SC though. Not much about a 1.6 diesel seems particularly sporty to me... But then I bought the 1.2tsi estate, so who am I to speak on such things, lol
