hi ya im new to this.in a couple of weeks we are looking to purchase a seat leon fr but i am so undecided on which engine to get.i cureently own a diesel car and i like the torqyness of the diesel but they say the 1.4 petrol still has 80 percent of the torque of the diesel.im just wondering if anyone has these engines and try to help me please.!!!!!!

probably about 8k a year.i wont be using it to go to work.got work van.really i was just wondering what sort of difference in power etc between the two.just general use really.

test drive them both.
The 2.0 184 has about twice the torque of the 1.4...tax is cheaper too. It's a peach of a motor, but with a low mileage you might have DPF-related stress!
drive them - it's your best way to decide before you buy.

Im currently booked in to test drive the 1.4 next week.i know i dont do many miles but i always said id never go back to a petrol engine.ill find out next week.lol.i had a 2011 honda civic 1.4 i vtech and it was the worst experience of my life lol.just no power what so ever.i was averaging just under 30 mpg.you had to rev the hell out of it just to get some umf.i currently own a 2013 c max 1.6tdci. And believe it or not its quite nippy and it handles unbelieveble considering its a mpv.i wanted a car thats sporty and still practical for two kids and the leon defo ticks the boxes.

the new 1.4 will do FAR better than the VTech 1.4.
It does have loads of torque, certainly, just nothing like the 184TDi, but then you'd EXPECT loads of torque from that lump.
From all I've read the new 1.4 is a really torquey and punchy engine.
And there's a lot of trouble coming for diesel owners in the next few years from the whole N02 issue, as well as the issues with DPF's clogging up with short journeys because they take so long to heat up.
don't get too seduced by the torque - if I were buying today I'd almost certainly take the 1.4 150BHP version of mine. I planned to keep it for a few years anyway, but I reckon in 2 years the bottom will have dropped out of the market for engines like mine.
anyway - your call. Try them both, look at the servicing costs, the on the road cost, etc - and enjoy whichever one you get.

Thats the design of a vtec Honda engine, sound knocky to with a few miles on them. If buying new on your millage the diesel will cost you more, but I bet once your driven the 1.4 petrol your like it..

Thanks for the info guys.ive heard in general that some diesel engine dpfs are clogging up.some of our fiat vans at work have had issues.ive heard that if they get clogged up the warranty doesnt cover them being emptied.you have to pay seperate.i may be wrong tho.im really looking forward to having a test drive in one next week because looking at the figures ie 0-62 the 1.4 engine isnt no slouch by the look of things.next hard job is the colour lol.i like the white tho.:D
