On our previous 14 plate Cupra I noticed on the inner edge of both front wings ( the part where the bonnet sits when closed) that the paint appeared to have been rubbed away, down to the primer. When I looked at the corresponding area on the edge of the bonnet, there is a rubber strip around 12" long. It was clear that this was the culprit. I didn't bother taking it up with Seat as we'd already ordered a new 290 at the time I noticed it. When the new one arrived, I was having a look round and raised the bonnet ( as you do
) and spotted that the rubber is still on the bonnet edge but that the corresponding place on the wing now has a clear vinyl strip on it, obviously to protect the paint.
Clearly Seat are aware of this issue (hence the mod) it would be interesting to know when they applied the fix, what would happen if you went to dealers with rusty wings, or if this strip has been there all along and some enthusiastic PDI person removed it on our 14 plate?
Can only comment on Cupra 5 door.
Can't post pics as I'm not with the car
