Hello. I'm looking to upgrade my current car in the coming months and i've set my sights on a Seat i just can't decide which one.

For the longest time i was set on the Leon FR 184 tdi, test drove one and it felt great then i started to question that against the 1.8 tfsi.

I'm looking to modify the exhaust, maybe to the sport styling pack one or maybe a third party one but feel it might look ridiculous on a roaring diesel. Does anyone have any 1.8 petrol vs 2.0 diesel pros/cons?

Yesterday i came across a youtube video for the 2016 Ibiza Cupra, marginally faster than Leon FRs, worth it? I hear that their interior can feel cramped and not as nice as the Leon? I don't want to step up to a Leon Cupra, as a 21 year old the cost of insurance for a 290bhp car and the likeliness of me driving into a wall outweigh the benefits of that much power for me personally.

Any views on this would be greatly appreciated.

Leon vs an ibiza for me is a no brainer having had both. Leon feels a much nicer cabin and is a good size. Ibiza does feel smaller, I really liked my Ibiza FR but after sitting in a Leon I immediately went on the hunt for one.

This is my 2.0tdi 184 with a custom exhaust and I obviously don't think it looks ridiculous

Do you need a diesel? Do you do enough miles for the money?

Sorry I meant that it would look good but not sound as good being diesel. Currently I do around 13000 per year which I believe is close to the diesel vs petrol economic threshold

Well it does sound different. Still sounds nice though. More turbo noise.

Yeah 13,000 is decent enough for either. Are you buying new?

I was 20 when I got my first edition 30, which was mapped. I've then had another one and now ordered a cupra 290 at 22. Don't let your age put you off.

Also, do not assume insurance prices. Do a quote. You might be surprised...

I'll be doing about 15k a year in my cupra if that helps your decision

I got screwed out of no claims bonus for my first 2 years of driving as I was on my parents insurance policy and the provider gave me an awful price on my own first car. Maybe if I win the lottery I'll go cupra haha

Honestly mate do quotes on all 3 and check. The difference might not be as much as you think. Will only take you 5 minutes on a comparison site!

Sorry forgot to ask, is your exhaust the Seat provided upgrade or private company and if it was private how much did it cost you if you don't mind me asking?

It's a custom cat back built by EMP Performance in St. Albans. It was £350 and the diffuser is from Rieger Tuning which was £159 if I remember rightly. The one that is supplied by SEAT is just a twin exit back box. So it's just for styling purposes. It doesn't change the sound or performance.

Cheers i'll have a look, will it void the warranty of the car?

As above for 13k miles I'd definitely go for a petrol

Surely it depends on the type of driving, not just the overall? I do circa 10,000 miles a year, but 85% of that is motorway so I went for the 184 diesel.

That's why I'm sat on the fence. I do weekly long journeys, enough to give a Diesel engine the blast it needs to keep it 'clean' then the rest of the week is short journeys to and from work. So I guess there's pros and cons for each.
