any chrome or polished rims imo require preping and protection to put up with general use.
BMW alloys had issues for years, they spent a small fortune replacing alloys affected.
Then there is how we treat them, - for example using supermarket/hand washing businesses that use chemicals that are great at achieving a clean in a short time, but have nasty affects to alloys etc as they are agressive chemicals. not to mention winter driving with salt etc.
use some alloy wheel / hard wax for protection and reapply regularly.
having said all this, in this case it appears this will be down to the preperation and painting of the wheels and correct type of paint/laquer used.
