Hi all

This is a big ask.

My 04 cupra r which ive had from new has had the passenger window drop. Its completely in the door and wont come up.

Ive had a little look, so im thinking the retaining clips have gone, ive got the old jetta 'how to' guide but thinking its a little much for me.

Its probably one of those, done it once piece of cake things but i think i need help, would any kind soul help me do it??

If someone has actually done this and can spare the time i would really appreciate it, ive got room at mine or will travel maybe an hour or so.

I live in milton keynes, if anyone feels the christmas spirit brewing please drop me a message and maybe we could sort something.

Thanks for any help.

If i have to go it alone, have you any advice on the actual glass.

The guide implies it has to come out, its stuck proper, so can i take the door card off with the glass still in the door?? and does it get fitted at the end? I.e after the door card has been refitted to the door, some how slid in from the top?

Many thanks

If the glass has dropped completely then my guess is the cable or guides have snapped, if the window dropped one side then the guide may have just come loose.

You can use the vwvortex guide to fix whatever is wrong, you just need get the 2 window guides that hold the window in place, level with the big round rubber grommet access points and lift the window up into place and duct tape it there. Once you remove the door trim, take pictures of everything before you remove it so you have a reference.

First of all I agree with all that sockpuppet said above. However if the window is completely jammed then see below.

The glass stays in the door at all times really. Once you've removed the inner door panel and then unbolted the metal carrier panel, you'll then be able to get your hand in from the bottom of the door (and if needed through the two rubber bung holes too) then you can release the glass from the mechinism (if it's still attached) and then work it upwards until you can lift it up and tape it in place, as in the guide., just like it would be when the window is closed.

Once you have all the parts in front of you it all makes a lot more sense

If it is jammed then its either come off the regulator and or the reg guides have come off the metal panel (which would he difficult as they are riveted on.)

You need to strip door down and investigate. I had to remove my glass as I changed the door and its a bit tricky taking glass out.

I stripped my door down last year, which was the first time I had done something like that.

I was very unsure at the time, but spent a while just going over the way it works and figuring out what has gone wrong.

I took my time in stripping it all down and got it all back together okay, plus it still works now so must have done a decent job!

You may find you need to buy some spares once you have it all stripped down, so be prepare to maybe tape the window in place for a while once you have it apart.
