Hi all,

May be a daft question but i have a FR184 which doesnt have the auto lights feature. Now im convinced that sometimes when the lights are off that the white speedo lights are lit up on some occasions, some times they dont. Should they always be lit up? Do i have a faulty unit?

They work fine when the lights are on side or full beam, but its just weird why sometimes they come on when in the off position and sometimes they dont

Thanks

Think it is something to do with outside light conditions, if it is quite dark dash lights go dark indicating to turn your lights on. Bright and dash lights stay bright.
This might be with auto lights not sure..... see answer below

There is a light sensor between the dials on the dash, if it see's dark it lights up the dash

Not correct.

The dash will be lit in bright lighting conditions only. In dim conditions the dash lights switch off in a car without auto lights, in order to prompt the driver to turn on the headlights.

Yeah got it wrong way round. If I cover the sensor the dash lights dim. Found out after having to keep pressing the ip to try and stop the bloody rattles

The dash dimming then getting brighter was too irritating for me so changed it with obdeleven. Now it stays lit all the time, regardless of the current light condition or headlights being on.

So i have auto lights but have the dash lights set to darkest in settings, but sometimes as im driving along the dash appears to get bright and dark kinda flickering is that because of the sensor?

Sorry Stu, I've never used VCDS. I did it with an adaptation on obdeleven so I'm guessing it would be different on VCDS, but here's what it was anyway.
