It pains me to say it but next weekend I will say goodbye to my beloved Cupra 280 and pick up my new Golf GTD.

Undertaking 15,000 miles every year, wanting to start a family and the recent purchase of a house that requires a lot of work, it was time for me to put my sensible head on and buy something with 5 doors and more efficient.

I'll be gutted to see the cupra go as it has been far the best car I've ever owned! If you ignore the constant rattles and focused on the drive, I personally don't think there is anything better value for money on the market at the moment! (Personal opinion) When I think the amount of times I really pushed the cupra and the smile it brought to my face as kept it on asking for more! My only regret would be that I never got it to a track today! I however, will no doubt be back in a cupra in the future!

As for the golf, I've previously owned the Leon FR with the 184 engine and what an engine it was! I'll also be getting a dtuk box once a few miles are on the car, to help me cope with the loss in power! I'm looking forward to owning a golf as it's always a car I wanted since I was a little boy! It's also got a lot of new toys to enjoy and hopefully the cabin will be a bit of an upgrade on a day to day basis!

I will continue to follow the forums on here as there is a good bunch of people on here!

I'll also be removing my TRC splitter and putting it up for sale at some point next week :)

any particular reason for picking the golf over the 184 leon tdi?

curious as i'm window shopping for a leon at the moment.

I just felt it was a step up in quality from the Leon in terms of build and finish inside. They also matched the part ex I got offered by Seat and due to the face lift golf coming out next month, got 20% off the list price through car wow :) Therefore the level of equipment I got with it was far better than that of a similar priced Leon. Oh and the level of depreciation I experienced with the Leon was another factor I went with a Golf this time.

Id be interested in the Splitter. Where abouts are you?

I live in teeside, I could look at posting if you want? When I take it off next week I'll put some photos up as there is the odd stone chip due to it being on the car for 18 months.

Yes that would be good bit far for me to come for it. Would be interested in the photos. You know how much you'd be looking for?

I'm not sure yet as only once it's off will I get to have a good look at the condition of it :) I'd imagine something between £50-60 though plus delivery.

I've done almost exactly the same thing for the same reasons. I don't do very high mileage and Mainly shorter journeys during the week and so wanted petrol rather than diesel. Once I found that I wasn't going to be able get another 1.8Tsi FR, not available in the UK after the facelift, I began to look reluctantly at the 1.4Tsi FR.
Also through carwow I realised that with the discount I could get the same 1.4Tsi ACT engine in the VW Golf GT Edition for about the same price as I would be paying for a new Leon. Unfortunately if I'd left ordering until after Christmas the price would have come down significantly more, but I wasn't to know at the time.

After taking a test drive in the 1.4 Golf with DSG I decided it felt so much quieter and generally better quality that the SEAT. Also with the Golf GT Edition I get sunroof, 18 inch wheels, front and rear parking assist, adaptive cruise control all included and even independent rear suspension on a 1.4 model. The only thing I might miss from my current Leon are my LED lights but the Radio Satnav etc all look superior than the one in my current SEAT without any expensive upgrading. It just all feels a big step up in quality and in 3 or 4 years time when I next change my car I should hopefully get a better price for a Golf.

Not yet Will, was busy picking the new car up today :)

I'm currently on crutches and unable to walk, so everything is taking a bit longer to do, so bare with me :) lol

I shall make a point of hopping to the garage tomorrow and taking some pics!

Hi mate I've realised I've bought your old car the cupra. Did you leave the silencer on when it was sold?

Ooo that's good to hear it got sold to a fellow enthusiast!! I hope they haven't ruined the ceramic coating?:(

I put the silencer back on before I sold it I'm afraid! How come?

I hope you're loving the car :) any questions just give me a shout!

I purchased from a seat garage in Sheffield. You'll be glad to know she's in good hands.

I was just wondering as you had said you taken off the silencer I was curious if it was still on because of how quite it is lol.

Did taking the silencer off make much of a difference?

Oh and I take it you looked after her she's in great condition!!

Ahh I see! Yeh I'd taken it off then popped it back on before I sold it, just in case the garage came back to me about it!

It makes a massive difference! You should remove it immediately lol! You get to enjoy the crackles and pops constantly! Doesn't give too much of a drone unless your exceeding the speed limit a lot....lol

Aw thanks, it was my pride and joy! For information it has siRamik SC15 on it, which was applied June 2015! In case you wanted top products or the same ceramic coating :)

I done a lot of motorway journeys on it and wasn't the kind to smash it around when it was cold, so you should have yourself a well looked after motor!

I've been thinking to take it off myself. Where do you get it done at just any exhaust shop? And how much if you know? The car as it is seems to make no noise what so ever lol!

When I bought it I had gardx put onto it so I don't know if that would affect it.

Thanks for the replies
