8 months into a cupra 290 lease. Do not get me wrong - I think this is a very good car. Fast, reliable so far, capable. Good gearbox and clutch action once CDV is removed. Excellent buckets and generally a nice place to be. But it just does not excite me at all. Have had a couple of renaultsports in the last few years and would find myself going out of an eve just to drive them. Have not done that once in the last few months with the Cupra.

Once I move house and have my own parking spot i plan to go driving at night very regularly. And I'll have somewhere proper to wash the damn thing. Dynamic Grey is a b*tch to keep clean.

But No, I'm not bored of my Cupra. Came home a different way yesterday and got to drive some country lanes and motorways and it was a blast.
And then today, I drove 3 miles in heavy traffic to the gym and home again and it was a completely civilised, easy, light car to drive.

Well, haven't had a Cupra yet, waiting till the following 10 days, to arrive to my country with the dealer, but I hope it can be as good as my last Mk2 fr 2.0 tfsi.

You are getting old.

I am getting along but that should make me like the car more.

Not slagging it, but just not floating my boat like previous cars. Possibly half the problem is that by the time you have used the power in a way that is half interesting you are into license losing territory. On track it may be a different matter but that's really not the point with this car.

Had an RS clio 200 for 3 years and that had what I now believe is just enough power for the road. Handled and braked in a way that the cupra just doesn't match. Probably personal preference as would rather have something that you could throw round a corner, rather than power out of using the diff.

As I say a very capable and competent car but would probably hand it back now if it weren't a lease.

Ah , I see what you mean now. I suppose it's like the old holiday hire car thing. I have happy memories of me and my ex brother in law ragging two Fiesta's round Lanzarote , only 1.1's but you could drive them foot to the floor everywhere. Try that in the Cupra and you'd be public enemy number 1...

I had a Clio 200 and the Cupra is in a different league handling and braking wise. Not sure what you mean? The 200 is lighter so did feel nimbler, but I can certainly take corners a lot faster in the Cupra and stop a lot faster.

I think you're driving it wrong.

Yeah I came from an R26 and used to just go out for a drive in that and love it. I still drive the Cupra in the same way as it's just as capable and fast but it does lack a bit of excitement. Then again what will compare to the missile sound of the R26 ???

Mmm - maybe? There is absolutely no modulation in the standard cupra brakes compared to the 4 pot brembos on the clio (IMO). I find them very on/off. Does not inspire confidence when all you want to do is scrub a little speed. I would not chuck the cupra into a corner like the clio either - it is heavy and lardy in comparison - again IMO. The cupra is much more about speed out of the corner. The 19s really don't help it either.

Do you enjoy the cupra more?

Awful box in the R26 though. Had a white one.

Maybe you're looking for something lighter and more nimble.

I was thinking exactly the same! I've driven a fiesta ST and they really offer the agility it sounds like the OP is after, there's really nothing else that comes close

The reliability of them wasn't great - mine never really gave me major problems but it usually had a small niggle . Don't get that with the Cupra . Trade off I guess - quality over excitement . TBH I can't see me going back to Renault sport anytime soon .
