Hi guys, I am hoping to purchase my first SEAT soon, around March/April time.

I have about a £13,000 budget, so I am hoping the prices will slightly reduce when the 18 plates start to come out.

So far I have the Leon 1.4L EcoTSI 150 FR Tech on my shortlist, preferably DSG.

I am wondering what he general consensus think about this model/spec?

Is the engine reliable and does it have any known faults?

Is the DSG worth the extra money or should I stick with manual for peace of mind?

Many thanks!

I've not heard of any major common problems from anyone on here. Cracking engine, can be great on fuel and has a nice amount of shove.

Had the estate with this engine, really impressive and would absolutely recommend.

As Curtly said it is great on fuel but has a surprising turn of speed when needed.

As for the gearbox I found the manual quite cheap feeling, as in it had a plasticy feel during changes rather than a nice solid slick feel, so would probably recommend the DSG as I have that now and it works in all situations once you get used to it's little nuances.

Thanks for your replies, I think I am definitely going to go for it.

Do you think I could get a 15 Plate Leon with max 25,000 Miles within my budget? Will the prices lower when the 18 plates come out?

I should think so. My local dealer has a 16 plate with 6k miles for £15k

Easily, and newer.

Not immediately. Nobody will be rushing to reduce the prices of their used car stock just because the plate on new cars has changed.

A DSG version? I'll have to keep checking AutoTrader.
Less easily, as there are fewer of them, but still yes.

I've just done a quick search on seat.co.uk and, for example, Blade in Gloucester have a '65' plate DSG in Emocion Red that fits your criteria.

I've just agreed a p/x price on mine today as i'm getting a Freelander Dynamic :) p/x figures from several dealer were similar at £11500 - £11700
2016 FR Titanium 150bhp, manual with 22k so similar car will be around £13k on a forecourt - FR standard spec should be less (titanium has factory extras - sideskirts/ rear spoiler/ silver mirror covers/ 18" alloys)

Finding a Titanium DSG isn't going to be easy :(

SEAT Leon 1.4 EcoTSI 148BHP

Had a 1.4 140bhp Leon for nearly 4 years, covering 29,000 miles. Loved it! Just waiting for my 2018 Leon to be delivered.
I’d look out for door card rattles. It was a known issue and supposedly addressed with a recall but it didn’t solve anything for me.
Creaky suspension, never got to the bottom of it but was told it wasn’t normal.
Squealing clutch, possibly an issue with the clutch release bearing but I’m not sure. Immune started doing this before I changed it. The garage said it was a known issue in the A3, Golf and Leon. To replicate it, reverse up a hill and you’ll hear it moan.

Other than that I loved the car and highly recommend SEAT.

Try and get in with SEAT Sound, Technology Pack and Alcantara interior.

Good for drowning out all the rattles, creaks and squeals

You'll struggle to find an FR without the Technology Pack.

Not many of those about :(

Good shout haha

Sorry, didn’t realise the OP was after an FR, didn’t read the thread fully. I didn’t have an FR just the SE, but with a fair few options.

Alcantara is lovely. Will miss it on my new Leon.

Many thanks for your reply.

What does the Tech Pack include?

Just had a look, that’s the 1.2 TSI.

I’d be after the 1.4 EcoTSI FR Tech DSG.
