Hi, I’ve got a leon fr 2017 with 18” option alloy wheels. Looking to buy a space saver off eBay to replace the awfull tyre repair kit you get as standard. The seat genuine space saver tyres on eBay are 16” ( the kits I’ve seen have the space fitting foam that hold the jack). Am I ok with this even though my wheels are 18”? Sorry if this is covered somewhere else but I did search and can’t find the answer I need.

The workshop manual lists two rim sizes for the spacesaver spare wheel.
Rim 3 ½ J x 18 Offset 25.5. Tyre T125/70 R18 99M
Rim 3 ½ J x16 Offset 25.5 Tyre T125/70 R16 96M
It could be that the 16 inch rim is OK for 17 inch rims as a temporary spare, but an 18 inch rim may be too big a difference. I imagine that the higher rotation speed of the spare would bring up the tyre pressure warning light

Yep you need an 18” wheel. 16” is for 16” and 17” wheels.
Even one from an A3 or Golf would suit.

On my Seat Leon,it gives the space saver sizes inside the fuel cap.I have 18inch on mine,but it did

Seat dealer and web searches all suggested it should be a 16" space saver (skinny) wheel, which I now have (I got this the week I picked the car up, having never not had a spare wheel it felt wrong to only have some weird gel and a pump).
It's a fair bit smaller in diameter than the wheels on the car, bugger knows how this works, I've never tried fitting it, I probably should cos that just seems wrong to me.

Put the two sizes in to this calculator and it will tell you how far out it is.
Then try the 18" space saver size and see if it is closer

Although your space saver’s a 16”, it will have a higher profile tyre than the tyres on your 17” road wheels so that the rolling radius of the skinny space saver & tyre should be the same as your 17” road wheels plus tyres.
You should always fit a space saver to the rear axle.
If you get a pucture on the front then swap the space saver with the rear wheel (same side as front punctured if directional tyres), then swap the rear wheel you removed with the puctured 1 from the front
If you fit the space saver to the front then the steering can be all over the place

However - on the side of a motorway the space saver will be chucked on the offending corner to get me off the motorway asap.
Pretty sure this is not the case, when I placed the spare next to the wheels that are on it is definitely shorter. Is that a problem?
You’re correct, the 16” version would have a smaller overall rolling radius than your 17” road wheels and tyres, which doesn’t seem right. Putting the specs of both the space saver and your road wheels into the ‘will they fit’ calculator at the link below, the 18” space saver looks to be more suitable than the 16” one as the 18” has pretty much the same rolling radius as your road wheels (check the ‘results’ box on the L/H side of the screen). I’ve assumed your road wheels and tyres are 7j x 17” ET49 and 225/45 R17.
Space saver wheel / tyre specs are as provided by EFF11 earlier in this thread (space saver offset of ET25 rather 25.5 used in the calculator as it only accepts 2 digits in the offset field, but this will only make a 0.5mm difference to the space saver offset).
