I have a 2018 Cupra, and have been thinking I might trade for the upcoming mk4 model, but looking at the design of the new Tarraco Im a bit put down that the Leon might follow the same theme, which They call “Seat’s new design language”

Honestly it doesn’t look like a Seat (the Ibiza, Arona and Ateca have managed to carry the Seat look and character very well) the Tarraco looks generic. Look at the attached image, they are clearly different cars, yet they have the same grill concept, they seem like they could all be from the same brand.

If the new Leon is going to look like a Hyundai, I might as well make the jump to Audi or go to another brand. I know I didnt buy my Cupra for looks but rather for what it offers for the money, but I must admit it is pretty sexy to me.

Im just criticizing the new “Seat design language”, what do you think? I cant get Hyundai out of my mind...

In realities terms, what does a seat look like? All the different mks of leon for example look entirely different from the last. It's natural design progression and some will like it and others will hate it. The larger elongated tail 'light' across the length of the boot appears to be the in thing atm.

Im going to make my mind up as and when actual press images are released and a launch takes place. Up until that point it's all speculation anyway. If it doesn't look much, I will just look for a nearly new current spec cupra st which would hsve deopped in value slightly or maybe switch to something like the i30n??

You are absolutly right, I like automotive design, and like discussing it, guess Im just bitching about what theyve shown us.

Even tho, like you mentioned, the design has progressed over the years, each time Seat has managed to creat a distinctive identity, a bit different, daring, sometimes weird, that identified the brand and made it stand out. Now, if the Tarraco is the new line they will follow I think the brand will blur into the background of a picture full of bigger main brands. Yes they can change, and maybe should, but they should find or forge they're own identity, not try to blend in, looking like the rest, mistake

Like you said, we’ll just have to waint and see if its worth it or not.

Ah yeah, get what you mean now, it's one of the reasons I like the leon, it's always different to anything else in its class. A leaner version of the golf but a sharper more purposeful loom than say an Astra.

I'm more likely to get an end of line mk3 cupra next as the mk4 is due for launch, see if I can get a decent deal or just get a year or so old one (New now).

Not saying it has to look like this, but one is recognizable and distinctive, the other looks like it could be any brand.

Ok, found I new image, its not identical, but it definitely looks more like a new Hyundai then a new Seat... What are they thinking? I know there is always some people that complain whenever a new design comes out and they dont like change, but thats not me, I like design, and I cant stop seeing Hyundai when I see the Tarraco, its ok to change your design language, I like new, but not to make it look like another popular SUV you want to compete against, thats boring.

I can definitely see the similarities, it's the grill that does it. Personally I still prefer the more angular edges of the seat. It's maintained the angular look of the wing mirrors, foglight area of the bumper and the angular lights and drls from its current design ethos which is good imo.

Any thoughts on when the mk4 Leon Cupra will be on sale, the lead time on a mk 3 is now four months.
According to a few sites the standard SEAT Leon is set to be sometime in 2019, with a plugin version in 2020.

So it's more likely to be sometime in 2020 or after

Could the hybrid version in 2020 be the cupra? Going much the same direction as the new focus rs is rumoured to be going? Could be why cupra had the push a while back with the electric race car?

All crossovers look the same to me. Saw a white Lamborghini Urus the other day. Wasn't impressed either.

I think the ŠKODA Scala which was made public this weekend is a big indicator as to the look of the next Leon.

Yeah, I noticed the Scala has a different climate control module to other VW Group cars I've seen, so it's possible this will roll out across new models like the Leon. If so I'm glad it's not gone full touch screen like some have speculated.

Edit: Looking at the Scala interior again for other clues I also noticed it's got a regular handbrake and USB-C ports.

Since computers are well involved in car design for aero etc all cars are starting to look similar, getting harder to tell which car is coming towards you on the road.
