In a Cupra is there any other way to select eco mode without having to go in to individual and select engine:eco?
 
Just by having it set up as your individual mode so pushing that each time. The issue you’ll have is the usual comments “why buy a cupra for economy” etc, also that it doesn’t do anything. The power output is still the same but the throttle response is largely delayed.

I leave mine in individual mode with cupra selected. :)

You dont buy a cupra to select cupra or sport every time you start it :D That move by seat doesn't really make sense. They should either fully reset it to comfort every startup or let it stay in whatever it was in when it was shut off. Or even better, they should have let us choose which option we would like. Like they let us choose all kinds of stupid options like 16 colors led strips or passenger mirror down in reverse or 100 different digital instrument setups etc.

Yeah, suspension and stuff stays in the mode selected but engine and tranny resets to comfort. Only guess I have is that it has to do sth with regulations. If they have to do that I would also like my brakes to be reset to comfort because sometimes when I drive another car whole day and come back in cupra in cupra mode I tend to brake too hard :) Just try changing the modes and touching the brake when moving slow, difference is huge.

May be wrong but I'm pretty sure brakes are not effected by the mode change

Aren’t you experiencing a higher idle in sport and therefore more creep, hence having to brake differently?

I don’t believe the brake feel/servo can be altered with drive modes as it could affect the driver’s ability to modulate the pedal in a critical situation.
 
Could be because of the gearbox being more aggressive, but definitely feel different.
I will try it today. Also they seem to grip stronger with less pressure when collision alert gets to second level (apply the brakes). I could be wrong of course, never really tested it for the sake of it.

For cars with Front Assist (ie. all FLs (in EU - don’t think it’s fitted as standard in all markets) and pre-FLs with FA or ACC) 100% braking force is applied across the entire travel of the brake pedal if the car senses that you are too close/approaching too fast to something in front (cf. breaking the 2 second rule!). Not tried it in the Cupra yet, but in the VRS it used to dab the brakes to alert driver if it thought a collision was imminent (ie. Red collision alert on dash).

Eco mode only changes throttle and Cruise control acceleration RESPONSE - not acceleration speed or any other element. Certainly not brakes. And the DCC is changed by that setting individually (comfort, sport, Cupra)

Technically, it’ll still do 0-60 in the same time Cupra would? :cheeky:

Doesn't it change the gearbox too? Shifting speed or shift point? If it does it would affect acceleration.

In a DSG it changes gear super early at low revs and idles lower than Sport and Cupra. For example yesterday I was driving in eco and it was in 7th on a moderate incline at 40 mph! It also goes into neutral when not accelerating or braking which takes a bit of getting used to.

Cruise control acceleration has a seperate setting under ACC in the vehicle config so I believe with cruise control active it would use the ACC mode for acceleration.

However if you accelerated heavy it would still kick down an accel the same as other modes or not?

I believe so yes. It just takes a bit longer to decide you want to accelerate quick. I've never tried the kick down point on the accelerator in Eco mode but I think all modes would respond the same and accelerate as quickly as possible.

The artificial intelligence is programmed to offer maximum output even in eco-mode because arguably you could one-day need the power to get you out of trouble and if it isn’t there , all sorts of issues/technicalities et cetera could be problematic And difficult to overcome in a court of law
 
The eco mode is actually useful at times. Its configured as my individual mode.
The shift point is reduced as compared to sport, but the car also coasts whilst you are off acceleration and braking. That's when you see the eco icon appear in the DC. It'll disappear when either the brake or accelerator is applied.

In the manual all the eco mode offers is guidance on when to shift gear (if you have the setting enabled).
So less useful.

I only ever use eco mode on a long run. I found that on the same journey in eco I could get an extra 5/6mpg over comfort mode, even when driving at 80+mph

I use Eco mode for most of my driving, have it programmed under the Individual preset.
Definitely get better mpg than comfort due to the coasting.

As has been discussed on a DSG it isn’t as ‘fast’ as Cupra/Sport even if you floor it/kickdown because it shifts up a lot earlier than those modes so you loose the top end powerband.

There is a setting in Carista to ‘preserve eco mode on startup’ or words to that effect but I’ve not dared use it as most things in Carista don’t work on my R ST (don’t think it fully supports newer Leon’s).
It is a bit of a pain to have to reselect Individual mode every time I start the car.

Isn't the eco icon in the dash to show 2-cylinder mode is activated? That's the case in my 1.5 TSI.

The gear shift suggestions come up in all drive modes, but I've noticed they're earlier and more aggressive in eco mode.
