No it's not normal. Picked my new car up yesterday and it is all good, no gap.

Just push the rubber padding in.

It appears that this rubber padding can be pulled out but please don't cause you'll have a hard time pushing it back in.

Had the same thing happened to me and I had to disassemble the center console to put it in place correctly

It holds on some guiding pins on the rubber padding that go inside the plastic.

Does it not come up for cleaning which is why it isn't fixed. Throu Seat screwing up my build combination I don't have the charging pad but what there is, is a rubber mat that lifts for cleaning.
