Spare Wheel

Just bought a 09 plate Ibiza and have now noticed that the spare wheel doesn't fit the car. I assume it was the wrong wheel that has been put in the car to fill the wheel well.

Can anyone let me know what the standard spare wheel is - is it an ordinary steel wheel or a space saver one?
And is the jack/tool insert a plastic box or a polystyrene insert

Many thanks

My 2005 Ibiza 6L came with a full size spare alloy and is the same size as the rest of the 4 other alloys. So did my mates 2007. It’s a 5x100 pattern you need.

Looking at the VIN its a 6J - does it make much difference?

It means that it is a MK5 Ibiza and the wheels tend to have slightly different sizes - ie not the same as 6L sizes.

With a basic 6J Ibiza that left the factory with alloys, either 16" or 17" with small front brakes, ie 256mm front discs, the factory fitted spare would be a "full size" 15" steel wheel, if that car had say 312mm front brakes, it would have a 16" "full size" steel wheel - as it would need that to fit over the larger front brakes.

So, what exactly are the sizes of that steel spare wheel that came with your car, in terms of diameter + width + offset + bolt number and spacing and maybe even the centre bore diameter?

I seem to remember that my daughter's old late 2009 Ibiza 6J 1.4 16V SC had a tool roll that sat inside the steel spare wheel.

Great.
The car has 256mm brakes, so I will look for a full size 15" wheel

Thanks for your help

I've just discovered some details for that car and its spare was only a 14" - which makes sense with 256mm front discs, 15" is good for up to 288mm front discs and that is what my wife's 2015 VW Polo 1.2TSI 110PS has for a spare as it has 288mm front discs.

So, a 14" is good if you never intend to fit 288mm front discs brakes, but buying the 15" steel would allow you to make brake change up to 288mm.

The official VW Group part number for the 14" is SPARE STEEL WHEEL P/N 6Q0 601 027R (5J X 14 H2 I've forgotten what the ET is for that wheel).

I have several spare wheels for the 2003/2008 Fr’s.
They are 16 in and have (bad) tyres of 16/45/205 on them, you’re welcome to have one if it helps you out and you can get to either Portsmouth or Oxford (where I work) to pick it up.

Thanks mate
I'm quite a distance from Portsmouth or Oxford - I've also managed to buy a matching alloy wheel to use as a spare also.
Thanks for the reply though
