Which Petrol for 2.0 TSI 190?

I can already hear the groans...I know this gets debated on every forum!

This is a bit different though. If it was a 1.4 TSI I'd say it doesn't matter, just stick any petrol in. If it was a 300bhp Cupra I'd say stick to premium. But the 190 TSI is between the 2 of those. Is it enough of a performance engine to warrant the premium fuel?

I suppose if it was in a Golf shell with a GTi badge and an extra 50bhp I'd say stick to premium... But I won't be remapping it, (despite seeing that these can pull 260ps from just a stage 1!) so would I get any benefit at 190ps?

I have a Tesco just 2 miles away that sells Momentum99 so would probably use that if premium is worth it.

I don't think this engine is in a high enough state of tune to benefit from premium fuel in terms of increased power or improved fuel consumption. If you plan to keep the car a long time it might be worth it with regards to the extra cleaning agents.
Who is liberating 260bhp from it? Sounds like a wheelspin fest.

OP, seeing as you are asking the question, maybe just run it on UL and fill with UL+ from a proper source every 5th fill to act as a "cleaner upper" fill.

I'm sure the XDS electronic diff lock can handle it... There was a thread on here about maps for them recently, might been in one of the exhaust threads, pretty sure it was AMD, 260bhp and 400Nm. I thought the same though, don't see how you can use 260bhp through the front wheels on anything other than a smooth, straight, dry road with decent tyres. Although saying that, the standard Golf GTi doesn't have a physical LSD with 230bhp and people seem to manage ok...

Regarding fuel, as no-one has gone mad at the idea of putting standard fuel in, I'll give that go and may try a tank of Momentum in future.

Does it say 98 (95) in the tank cover or just 95. I think the latter. You can try few tanks of both and see if it makes a difference. Perhaps Vpower may get you more mpg, but that's about it..

I run my FR 190 on standard 95 fuel. It can get good mpg if you take your time.

That's decent for a 2.0 petrol. I'm barely managing that in my current 2.0 TDI under lockdown lol. What's your normal tank average?

I use 98 in my 2.0 TSI 190.
The company that remapped my engine immediately mentioned it when they did the first stock testdrive. The values clearly told them that there was 98 fuel used.

Yes about 50 mph and when it gets into 7th gear.
These VAG engines can be economical when just holding steady....I used to have their 1.0 EcoTSi on a smaller car similar conditions may only get 5-6 mpg more than the 2.0TSI as you demonstrated.

When fuel supply was problematic I drove on the motorway for 200 miles sticking to 60 just in case I needed to drive around at the end to find fuel. Managed 50.5 mpg.

Averaging 36 min 32 max 50. Used Tesco 99 mostly and recently Tesco E10.

Despite what everyone states here: premium fuel benefits in EVERY engine in ANY car. It's just not necessary in every case. For me personally: 10% ethanol in 95RON allows for cooler combustion chamber temperatures, but less knock resistance than is the case with 98RON + 5% ethanol. It's a bit of a personal feeling tbh. Shell V-power definitely feels best for me, but it's too g*ddamn expensive atm to keep filling up with it for my daily commute.

I have a 3 litre BMW with over 400 BHP. With the mild hybrid tech, I got 48.5 mpg on a run of 168 miles with the cruise set at 75. Just goes to show what tech can do.

I’ve seen in a few places that the new E10 fuel can cause issues with seals and gaskets etc. My wife has a previous shape Ibiza 1.4 FR and I tell her to use premium 99 fuel.
