Hi, Long story but i'll keep it short :ROFLMAO: At the mo i own a 2020 leon ehybrid and its been nothing but grief so getting shot of it. I had a courtesy formentor for a week a while back and really liked the car BUT! after the leon i wanted to do some research first with thoughts from real life owners.
Are they reliable? Any issues etc?
What is everyones thoughts on them after owning them for a while.

Thanks in advance for any information.

On any car new or old they will or might have issues,

My old car is a Hyundai Tucson 2022 plug in which to me has been a good car but the 1.6 petrol only had issues with the GPF filter getting blocked all the time if you did short journeys and the hybrid would lose the memory the car every 3 weeks if you did not use the car every day and you had to reset every thing from profile to radio stations.
This car won the 2021 car of the year.

So my point is it could happen, but the dealers have sorted out many a issues what I have seen on the forum.
It could be worse the new VW Tiguan using the VW MIB4 software has been having problems since its release last year.
And VW are still clearing up the mess.
Luckily the Cupra is using there own MIB4 software on the formentor.

Hope you do get the formentor as its a good car, I have ordered one and I am picking it up on the 20th of this month.

I have owned a 73 (2024) V2 2.0L TSI (190) 4-Drive for 6 months now (acquired used at 8 months old). On the whole it has been great.
Things I like:
Looks - It looks great inside and out and I always get admiring comments. It's a nice place to sit and I always have a smile on my face when I get out and look at it.
Build quality - No rattles or squeaks so far. Yes the interior is not quite up to the standards of the 2 BMW's I have owned prior to this, but it isn't that far off the mark for the price differential. I think the 80/20 rule is evident here. The leather seats looks great and are very comfortable.
Handling and ride - The ride is very good for a sporty SUV riding on 19 inch wheels. Certainly FAR better than the 2 BMW M Sport coupes I have owned. It handles quite well too - Granted it isn't up the the BMW M Sport standards, but that is to be expected as they are apples and oranges in comparison.
Fuel economy - Having come from 2 BMW 2.0L diesels to a 2.0L petrol, I was expecting the worst. However, I was pleasantly surprised, and I'd even go on to say amazed at how frugal it is. My last BMW diesel averaged 46 MPG. The Formentor is averaging 39 MPG for the same driving profile. I am not driving it like a granny either. Impressive.
Performance - It has all the performance that I need. It is certainly as quick, if not a bit quicker, than the BMW 2.0L diesels I had. Certainly so off the line, but a little slower in the mid-range, which is to be expected for a petrol v diesel and being 300kg heavier.
Value for money / Spec - This is where the Formentor leaves the BMW far behind. My 2010 M Sport Coupe was a top spec car at the time and was £38k new (equivalent to £58.5k today). The spec was nowhere near the Formentor (granted that was 14 years ago). Folding mirrors on lock was a £150 option, heated seats £250 each side, electric seats with memory £500 each side, reversing camera £700, metallic paint £1200, professional sat nav £1800, harmon karden 6-speaker system £700. Most of this is and more (auto headlights, auto park, road sign recognition etc.) is standard in the V2 spec. My Formentor was £38k new. The equivalent BMW X2 is £47k.
Practicality - It being a hatchback (after 2 coupes) is far better to live with daily. When the seats are folded down there is quite a bit of luggage room. It isn't quite as wide as the BMW as my snooker cue will not fit in the boot, but I use the ski flap, which works great.
4 Drive - Great for me as I do a lot of hiking / mountaineering and this means parking in some rough carparks / going down rough tracks. Having the option of 4-wheel drive is very useful. The BMW was useless in this regard being rear wheel drive and very little ground clearance. Also driving in the snow is far better, the BMW was hopeless and it usually stayed on the drive if it had snowed.

Things I don't like / Issues
Infotainment system - It was initially a bit slow and buggy. After I did a software update, it is quite a bit better. However, the volume / heater controls are touch sensitive and not backlit. So adjusting on the move and especially at night is a little tricky. Personally, it is isn't a major issue to me as I use the volume control on the steering wheel, and I do not regularly change the cabin temperature as that is what climate control is for. I dial in a temperature and let the car do the necessary. The voice control can also be used (if you know the correct keywords).
Reliability - It has not let me down as yet. I had the dreaded SOS fault along with the associated GPS issue leading to lost sat nav. This was fixed under warranty with a replacement antenna control module. So far the issue has not reoccurred. I still get the odd technical glitch with the onboard safety systems (front assist, auto headlights etc.) due to sensor shenanigans. This is more pronounced in colder weather and is linked to foggy / iced up windscreen. None of the issues were permanent (SOS fault not withstanding), but it can be a tad annoying. It has been a lot better during the warmer weather, but during the winter most drives were accompanied by a "bing-bong" and some warning or other on the dash.
Digital dash displays - The right side displays could really do with some more useful display options. The left is fine, but it would be nice if some of the left side displays could be moved to the right side, as there as some left side displays that I'd like to see at the same time, whilst the right side has nothing that is of interest to me - it normally has the G-Meter displayed.
Phone connection issues - It regularly suffers random disconnections from android auto / phone, even when using a wired connection.
Wireless changer - This is not the best. It takes the phone in portrait orientation, which means that it can slide about losing the charging connection - I have put a bit of non-slip mat in there which helps. However, I have given up using it as the phone overheats.
No space-saver storage - The BMW had run-flats, so I was covered. This does not, and there is no space for a space-saver wheel due to the 4-Drive rear differential. I am not a fan of the tyre repair kit as it (I believe) makes a mess of the alloys.
View of vehicle extremities - The car seems and looks a lot wider than it actually is. I have difficulty seeing where the corners of the vehicle are and I'm constantly conscious of curbing the wheels. I find it difficult to park close to the curb.
Brake noise - When braking a slow speed the brakes do make a scraping noise. It is not intrusive and sounds far worse than it is. They all do it apparently. There is some circumstantial evidence that suggests that the pads are the issue and better quality pads fix it.
Tyre noise - There is quite a bit more tyre noise than the BMW (even though the BMW ran on 240/45R18 / 255/35R18 run-flats. It is not too bad but certainly noticeable.
Service intervals - The BMW was condition based servicing and it worked out that oil changes were every 12,000 to 15,000 miles or so depending on time of year. The Formentor has to have oil changes every year / 10,000 miles. Maybe BMW extended the service intervals passed what was actually good for it. They do do this to make the vehicles look good for the lease market. So, maybe this isn't a fair criticism.

I could be boring……. 71 plate hybrid from new…..will need to go soon…….have loved it, no issues to speak of…….dont by the hybrid if you do motorway miles…..it’s heavy……but perfect local car on electric……great performance, nippy as hell, munches front tyres. Android has worked faultlessly, just a handful of ‘resets’ over the years….. I have no idea what to replace it with

I own a 1.5eTSI Standard about 3 months. With the new facelift i think looks more cooler. With the new screen climate control is more easy to use and works really fine. I also own a VW Golf 1.0eTSI, mild hybrid system works more stable. Fuel consumation is like 6.5-7.0 liters. I think it is too high for 1.5 150hp. Not going so fast but It's enough for formentor. I had some issues like Headlight Adjustment error and cracking taillights. But this was expected from a VAG vehicle xD. I have the 18 inch SONORA wheels, the old Formentor had 19 inches and it makes a big difference in terms of comfort. Seeing the hood in the driving area makes you feel like you're driving something big. Frankly, I am happy with the vehicle :)

The VZN Formentor is brilliant - I love it no problems or issues with it - only Cupra dealers!

I bought the VZN from Marshall Cupra Leicester they were absolutely bloody awful they were terrible as are many other Marshall dealers (check complaints on Trustpilot) I had the first Oil service done by another Cupra dealer in Coventry the charge was £235 last year for the Oil service but this year it was £435 as it included the pollen filter so £200 to fit a paper filter) when I queried that charge I was told their pricing had been using Seat labour charge and had been told by Cupra they need to charge £149.50 per hour labour charge!

I checked the service price with other reasonably local Cupra dealers for an Oil service and was quoted £263, £289, £290 and £299 the £299 charge was the Cupra dealer local to where I had my Caravan sited near Worcester I was staying there so I took it to them but the last Cupra dealer had used Ow 30 Oil as the label on the slam panel states Ow 30 Oil but this dealer had used Mobil 5w 30 Oil when I queried this the answer from their mechanic was that 5w 30 Oil is the same as 0w 30 Oil (no it isn`t) I checked with Mobil they quoted the Cupra recommendation of 0w 30 as did every other Oil company I checked with also now in spite of just having it serviced by this dealer there was a report on the dash that a service was due 2 days ago - they hadn`t reset the service counter!

When I queried this again with the dealer no-one was available to answer me - no Service advisor who I dealt with when it went in for the service, no Service Manager he wasn`t available either so as they had my full contact details I requested could someone reply to me by phone (mobile or landline) text or email no they couldn`t I received no reply!

So my opinion of Cupra Formentor ownership - its a great car sadly let down by the poorly supporting Cupra/Seat dealerships!

I have 2021 VZ2 hybrid 204.
It has been very good car and have seemed not to have lots of issues like some people had the sos issue 2 times in one day then fine after that hybrid battery had a recall on it which took a year to do but car was fine.

I don't see it to have any more issues than any other Cupra or VAG group car.

They should all be done by now, got a letter saying there was a risk of the car catching fire, but in good old cupra fashion they did not have a fix. But was done under warranty something to do with a bit of extra material that could catch fire do to the battery over heating. But this was fixed nearly 3 years ago so no need to worry.
I never had a problem with the car apart from sos goo going crazy for one day. Had to battle with the dealer to update the software. But eventually listened and got that done. Which was two years ago. So most of the faults should be ironed out by now.

Love It 😎

No major issues in my ownership (3years) only the very infrequent odd system temp unavailable.

Only complaints I got is the overzealous 'crash avoidance' alert system and the Fun Police - When in sport mode I get love letters from Greta saying that I could be hugging trees if I turn it off, or worse thou shalt not run the AC whilst driving with the windows open.

🤔 Perhaps I should look into some code updates from an Israeli dealership.

Simple advice imho - Buy One 😎👍

I've had my hybrid Formentor for 7 weeks now and it's becoming one of the favorite cars I've ever owned (had many BMWs, VWs etc and this replaced a 3 year old Tiguan). The car is great to drive and can do slow comfortable driving or high revs and fun, enough toys and gadgets to keep me happy and running on electric for round town trips is saving a fortune on fuel. Boot isn't massive (for hybrid) but a roof box for the few times we go away will sort that.

So far highly recommend it.

I've had my 22 VZ2 Hybrid almost 3.5 years and starting to think about what to replace it with (on 4 year PCP). New Formentors are significantly more expensive (£48K now vs £42K then for VZ2 Hybrid and PCP finance 6.9% rather than 3.9%) probably due to it's success, but what else is there? An Alfa Tonale is well over £50K for a similar spec (and still 6.9% PCP). I'm also a bit worried I might be handing it back as the last valuation I got was less than the balloon payment.

I've found the car to be one of the best I've owned, to paraphrase Sandiemandie:
I could be boring……. 22 plate hybrid from new…..will need to go soon…….have loved it, no issues to speak of…….dont by the hybrid if you do motorway miles…..it’s heavy……but perfect local car on electric……great performance, nippy as hell, munches front tyres. and to steal from DaveSmith as agree with most comments and highlight my thoughts / differences
Can be a bit firm at times on poor surfaces, but you just soften it off if you need to
Fuel economy - The Formentor is averaging 60 MPG for the same driving profile. But it's a hybrid - overall mpg is just a function of how often you run in EV mode, but does 40mpg ish when battery empty.
Performance - It has all the performance that I need.
Practicality - When the seats are folded down there is quite a bit of luggage room. The boot's not huge (as a hybrid fuel tank is under the boot floor).

Things I don't like / Issues
Infotainment system - It's had a couple of updates, one over the air, but has been fine for ages on the last one. However, the volume / heater controls are touch sensitive and not backlit. So adjusting on the move and especially at night is a little tricky. Double finger tap for heated seats is good (when you get it right). Personally, it is isn't a major issue to me as I use the volume control on the steering wheel, and I do not regularly change the cabin temperature as that is what climate control is for. I dial in a temperature and let the car do the necessary. The voice control can also be used (if you know the correct keywords - but I never can remember - so never use it).
Phone connection issues - Had none really, but use CarPlay with iPhone.
Wireless changer - This is not the best. The phone overheats - after about an hour, so you lose Waze, etc.

So in summary - great car, would have another without hesitation if not for the price, but what are the other 'interesting' (non MG, Kia, Hyundai, etc.) alternatives?

Audi S3, Golf R, VW TROC R, Cupra. And that's it. Then you move to RS category, I was test driving A class believe me after driving 310bhp every day it felt like the car doesn't want to move.
