18 inch Spare Wheel

Hi all,

I've just treated myself to my second car; a 2018 Seat Leon FR 1.4 TSI.

Very very happy with my purchase, however I would like a spare wheel for it, rather than one of these foam kits. I have read through previous threads from a couple of years ago but I'm yet to find a conclusive answer about what size spare I need for my car.

I have read that I could look for:
- mk3 Leon or mk7 golf 16 inch spare wheel and carrier (however I've also read that this might not fit due to the size on the brakes on the front of the vehicle?)
- or purchase a "18 inch space saver spare wheel + tool kit compatible with Seat Leon & Seat Leon FR/ST (2005-present day)" from the website the Wheelshop for £149.99 (available here: www.thewheelshop.co.uk/product/seat-leon-leon-fr-st-2005-present-day-18-space-saver-spare-wheel-tool-kit/ - although I don't think the tool kit would fit under the boot floor and inside the wheel well with the spare)
- or I could purchase an "18 inch space saver spare wheel kit suitable for Seat Leon / Leon FR/ST (2005-present)" from the website Spare Wheels For You (available here: https://sparewheelsforyou.co.uk/pro...-2005-present-18-space-saver-spare-wheel-kit/ - although again I don't think the tool kit would fit under the boot floor and inside the wheel well with the spare + the website has no reviews so I don't know if to trust it or not)

I'm hoping someone on here has said a similar experience and has managed to find the appropriate spare wheel for their MK3 Leon FR (specifically a 2018 1.4 TSI - idk if that makes a difference).

A 16" spare from a Golf MK7 would fit fine. The 1.4 doesn't have huge brakes to worry about clearance.

That seems expensive. Personally I would be looking for a good second hand spare - there are loads on ebay. Just make sure the DOT date stamp isn't too old.

I've attached a snip of a mk7 golf spare that comes with the carrier for the tool kit - would this be appropriate?

Do you have subwoofer there? If yes then you have to order 18" spare wheel as it will not fit in 16" wheel.

I don't have a subwoofer in their - just the empty well with the standard foam and inflator kit.

FYI the number of OEM styrofoam for Leon 3 hatchback is 5F0012109 and you can see it on my photo. Maybe it will help you finding correct and complete kit.

As long as you don't have Cupra with 340 or 370mm front brake disk then you don't have to worry about caliper size. 16" spare should work fine in your case.

Thanks for the info mate. I have found one option on ebay (image attached). Do you think this is worth buying or would I be better off with the one I found from Silverlake for £87.99?

I'm yet to find one with the styrofoam fitting round the outside of the wheel like yours on ebay...

Look at the zoomed in image on ebay that tyre is 48 05 (pretty old) so I think I'll steer clear of that particular example.

However, from looking closely at the tyre the size is 125/70 R16 - which happens to be the same as the VW one from Silverlake, and from googling it, the MK7 Golf se tdi bluemotion technology and MK3 Leon FR technology have the same size 312mm front rotors and 288mm rear rotors. So I might take a gamble on it, though before I do that I've been advised by a friend to ring a local scrap site / breakers yard to see if they have one knocking about...
