Leon FR Mk2 2.0T DSG camshaft broken

Sadly, the camshaft on my beloved Mrk2 has broken.

Does anyone know if this is worth fixing or is it not advisable to not go down that path? The mechanic said unforseen issues may arise once the engine is opened up- for example damage to the pistons.

Here is a better photo of the failed camshaft. (Top left of the block). The noise it made was like a knocking clap clap when trying to crank it. The engine would not start. Watch out for this with your vehicle

No symptoms, no warning signs appeared beforehand. No warning lights in the dash. It just went.

Anyone come across this and have any advice?
