Hi all, after some help/advice please.

Car is a 2017 Leon Cupra 300 which I purchased just over a month ago.

Want back to dealer last week as cd player wasn’t working.
Car is back now but the infotainment system has changed, I now only have a carousel type selection and cannot change to the grid style listing, I cannot change to the multiple interior light colours, CarPlay/Apple no longer works, plus various other options are no longer available.

The system information says software is 0241, is this correct?

I’m not sure what’s changed but I’m guessing the dealer has reloaded the wrong version …?

Anyone able to confirm or help much appreciated before I have a conversation with the dealer (Not a Seat dealer).

Thanks in advance 🙏

0241 is the oldest MIB2 software that SEAT released into the wild

0253 is the latest for your software train. Or, we can update to a newer train so you’ll benefit from a nicer user interface

They’ve replaced it with an older hardware version, that was installed on the later prefacelift Leon’s

CarPlay etc not working is likely due to them not restoring your software licenses

Thank you for your reply, will both these work with the cd player?
I’m just trying to figure out why they updated the software, would they have needed to just to change the cd changer?

They’ve replaced the unit with an older hardware version, they haven’t updated the software at all

Ideally you need to be on 0480 or 0516 as your car has the 8” display. They’re not DIY updates as they require crossing between software trains

We can perform them with the car at the workshop or you can post the unit to us

Sorry, I’m not understanding here….

Are you saying that by changing over the cd changer, this has altered/changed the software on the infotainment system?

the unit they put in is older than the car should have been 5qa035858 a or probably b for a 2017 car.

the infotainment unit is the cd player

Aahh ok so the software is loaded in the cd changer, not on the ‘screen’ itself?
That makes sense , thank you.

So i need to go back to the dealer and ask them to replace the cd changer with one that is specific to my model and year?

Thanks again guys 🙏

The screen is just a screen, it does have some software on it but it makes 0 difference visually or operationally - nor can it be updated

The unit in the glovebox is the control module. It either needs replacing again and properly adapting to the vehicle, or come to us and we'll sort the existing unit out properly

Well they put an old unit in and not the "latest" and final 516 firmware. Probably got it "new" or from a breakers thus it's on the old train and all that. So you got the issue that people of that vintage want to get on the latest train 5* but it needs on the bench as above. That which @East Yorkshire Retrofits use to be able to do via mail order. You'd have to check their website.

You buy a set of keys. Watch a YouTube video which shows the use of the keys. Slide it out and unclip the leads. Then you courier it to a retrofitter. Your dealer would have to do it. Then on the bench they do their retrofitter magic. In the past a number of people would mess up their units by fiddling with the firmware so they got sent up north to fix. This is one of the business of retrofitters to prep the units.

I know about the keys since in an Arona you can't see the SD slots. The SD went in the CD slot. Not my car so my name was rubbish. Got the keys. Broke the seal. Opened it up and pulled out the SD. Apparently it's a favourite place for kids to put coins in 🙄. Anyhow in an Arona you use your finger nails to find the SD slots. Lesson learnt.

Car is going back to dealer next week where they are going to try and re-program the cd with the correct version.
Fingers crossed 🤞 ….

They might not understand. I believe it is @leonlad above if not someone else on the board who mastered the mib2 standard toolkit to upgrade between releases. Skoda folk I know have quite a bit of experience with the package. They make it their pass time to fiddle with older unit and bridge the trains. Hmmm think it's the mib2 high where the unit is all basically gifted to take all firmware which the mib2 standard isn't you hit a bump when you get to the 4 series or something. Less memory before more needed after. So the upshot is if your broken unit was on the 5 series train but you got a very old unit, just fiddling with the firmware on the bench isn't going to do it. You'd need the same hardware replacement as the one you had before not one randomly taken off a breakers yard or website flogging it off isn't going to fix it.

It did occur to me whether your original unit just needed one of those CD / DVD cleaning disks put in to clean the heads. My 2011 PC when I put the update disk in for Windows 10 five years later would not read the disk. It was a mucky lens on the drive. All it needed was a cleaning disk with the bristles on it. Still going strong with Windows 11 with SSD and additional memory chips and the unsupported annual update trick. All over the air WiFi updates now, not using the drive. Vaguely remember one other laptop I had, had this issue. Mucky London air.

It might have required a similar approach (cleaning CD). Failing that your dealer should have gone to @East Yorkshire Retrofits to get them to look at the unit. My two pennies worth, if it is a completely new part their eyes wandered over the order parts and got an old unit not the correct unit for the vintage.

Thanks guys for your info, I’m sure you’re right but they want to try it their way.

They are a big dealership, not a main dealer but fairly large and have access to the VW systems (whatever that is), so they believe they can sort it.

It’s all under warranty so I’m not too stressed, but the dealership is an 80 mile round trip for me (160 miles if I drop off and pick up later), so I may need to discuss fuel costs with them this time…

Tell, they did try the cleaning route initially, (probably because it was the cheapest option!).

I’ll keep you all posted… 😁

They'll likely brick the unit so be prepared to go back again 👀
Any way they will know where to go ;) . Probably the parts man needs his eyes tested. Bricked units you short across pins inside them but obviously beyond the scope of a dealership. Where all the boards bricked unit went to Yorkshire for sorting out, after people fumbled the firmware in mib2s.

If they can’t sort it this time, I’ll pass your details on - if that’s ok?

Update, well there isn’t one really.

Dealer tried and couldn’t resolve the issue so the ‘ new’ unit has been returned. Another unit was ordered but had incorrect serial number when it arrived so that has also been returned!

They are now waiting on another unit.

On a positive note, I’m enjoying the car immensely.
Previous car was a Peugeot 308gti, a super drive but the build quality was well, French. The Seat has a much more refined ride and feel.
Probably one of the best I’ve owned as an all-rounder, not quite as exhilarating as my Impreza but again, definitely more refined (and I am getting on a bit now).

Thanks all.

The platform and era of the mk3 Leon (and Golf7/7.5, octavia 3, A3 mk3 etc) was the best but last generation of VWG elite design and build quality.

The vehicles being built at that point in time were incredible in terms of quality, design and refinement.

It's all gone a bit down hill now.

I did wonder whether they might have swapped out your broken unit to a car that was being sold on so you didn't get a new unit but one that had an older release on it. In other words they used their second hand forecourt as their parts department.

I'll stick with what I've got for the time being. 🤫
