With the car apparently weighing in at a kerb weight of 1583kg, but a max weight of 2080kg, would a 2 tonne trolley jack suffice? Looking at something like the link. Neat little kit for the boot?

If you're thinking of using it in an emergency for changing a wheel you should be fine in conjunction with an axle stand.

Just curious as to where an axle stand can be used on the current Leon, I went to rotate my tyres a couple of weeks ago but had to give up with just my one trolley jack and two axle stands. Other than the jacking points on the sill I could see nothing that looked to be load bearing?

If the MK4 is like the MK3, there are some handy factory lifting points which are hidden under a removable part of the plastic underbody covers.

That's an idea, but there's a lot of plastic under there. Were the lifting points near anything identifiable?
