It might be worth paying a VAG specialist to carry a a diagnostic check? I’m considering doing that for the cruise control error. The specialists working on post warranty cars may have already fixed the problem on another car.
You would have thought that the dealer network would have more information than a local garage.

It's also still under warranty for another 4 years 9 months, so why should I pay to fix something that should have been right from day one?

If you guys can get a full scan of the codes with VCDS or OBDELEVEN I'm sure someone on here will be able to point you in the right direction.

You’re right of course, but I just don’t have the time or energy to keep going back to Johnson’s in Preston.

I’m at Johnson’s Preston now for my two year service. They’re going to look at the cruise control fault and I’ve asked for the code. Not sure whether or not they’ll give it to me though!

Cruise control unavailable 17 times in four weeks and I was away on holiday for one of those weeks without the car!

This is the problem I have with my fault. I've had it into the dealers several times and, typically, the fault doesn't show up while it's there. They've said that there are no fault codes.

I don't know; I don't have access to diagnostic equipment. I'm taking it back to the dealer next month; is it worth asking them that question?

The fault occurs irrespective of whether I start the engine; I usually, but not always, turn on the ignition (stop-start button) then try to set it. It may or may not happen after the car's been sat all weekend, or just stopped for a minute after a long run.

When it happens, I turn the ignition off and on again; this will clear it. If it was a low voltage issue, surely it would keep throwing up the same fault?

I’m the same re voltage, no way to check it? Why do these particular faults always clear on the second start up? Could it be something in the very complex sequence the car goes through before the engine fires?

My post is of absolutely no help whatsoever, just wanted to say that there's so much that can go wrong in cars with such a high level of tech and gadgets.

The problem is that often the dealers don't have a clue either.

My post is of absolutely no help whatsoever, just wanted to say that there's so much that can go wrong in cars with such a high level of tech and gadgets.

The problem is that often the dealers don't have a clue either.

Once upon a time, the manufacturer produced products that were relatively reliable, but if an issue did occur, they made the fault finding process streamlined and the tools at hand intuitive.

Fault codes had meaning, gave clear direction and the test steps provided gave effective results.

Alas, things have gone backwards. Where codes once meant something and you could determine the cause of an issue, you're left with rafts of databus missing message faults that mean relatively nothing unless you have the data sheet with what they and their corresponding symptom code means.
