If the coding in A5 doesn't match this, then there is your issue:

providing this backup was taken before you made the changes.

I just made the back up when you asked for it, how would I change it do I just copy and paste what you have given me and where do I put it?

The coding James wrote is your current coding, but you don't have an older backup to compare, and you already said you didn't change anything.
So there's no need to copy and paste anything at the moment.

I believe that match I’ve attached a photo.

I got it! thank you all for the help so far what a complete sh*t show… over 1 simple thing that I’ll never be doing again if It doesn’t get sorted in a couple of days looks like it will be going to the dealership

Our current chance to see if we could sort it ourselves, or to see if it's really about coding or not, is to compare your coding to some other cars' codings and try to see if anything's looking off. I kinda started doing that now. But OBD11's backup is not really helping. Adaptations are OK but Long Codings are included as strings of hex numbers only. I was expecting to see them with their descriptions as it is in the adaptations. Can you take screenshots of 44 and A5 Long Codings, not forgetting scrolling as needed ?

There is one entry in 44-Long Coding which should be "active", I believe.

It's the one called "Lane Assistant" which is "not active" in your screenshot.

I have records of six different models from different VAG brands in my OBD11, all with Lane Assist, and "Lane Assistant" is "active" in 44 on all of them.

You may try to change it to active, restart the car and see what happens.

There are other differences but let's not start changing all of them, because some actual coding differences are naturally expected due to model, platform, version and equipment differences.

I have tried this already, I will try it again when I get home & will reply again to let you know.

Should I scan the car first & clear any faults then activate lane assist & turn of the car and rescan or just turn the car on and activate lane assist.

I don't think it would make a difference. But there's no harm in scanning & clearing the faults first either.

Just tried it hasn’t worked, although when the ignition is just on it will let me turn lane assist on&off via the infotainment but as soon as I turn the engine on it greys out and the light on the dashboard pops up.

I’ve attached 2 photos 1 of the A5 fault lane assist & 44 fault initial operation not completed.

Alright, let me check again for other coding differences and this new fault code too.

The other fault isn’t new it came up the same time as the lane assistance, I believe initial operation not completed for 44
Might be that I didn’t fully complete the steering wheel angle sequence if that’s the case what is the full sequence on completing it.

You can look for videos or others' instructions in forums for the correct sequence.

But that "Lane Assistance" entry being "not active" looks strange to me. You didn't make any change, you didn't run an app in OBD11 but there seems to be altered things, and a fault in a unit isn't expected to make coding changes on its own. Maybe our professional forum members or other coding enthusiasts around here can help with their opinions on this. I'll be looking into it further anyway.

@James_R @tracktoy this fault on 44 initial operation not completed also follows with the lane assist problem on A5, do you think this could all be from I didn’t complete the steering wheel angle sequence if so what is the correct sequence using OBD11
