No matter how many times I've seen this pop up, usually just ten minutes into a trip, it always causes a sinking feeling....

If it's a short local trip, no worries, I can hit either option with confidence and if the worst happens I don't need anything from the car.

But yesterday, just starting a two hour trip to a new destination where satnav was vital, the worst did indeed happen - everything stopped and could not be fixed, reset the infotainment, phone etc but nothing worked.

What morons design a system that updates while it's being used, then only resets once it's turned off and locked for an hour etc?

I've had a new Leon every three years since the MK1 came out, but this is the very last one I'll ever have and VAG group especially. Thanks VW you pulled a blinder on customer experience and satisfaction.

There's a software update to fix the "new settings are available" pop up.

Some clueless analyst designed it, and worse than that, some others accepted it. I have 35+ years experience of software design and development, and the update processes in recent iterations of VAG infotainment systems are one of the worst I've ever seen.

It's only done this since an OTA update a couple of week ago, used it again today and all seems fine - was yesterday the update to solve the update problem they created in the first place?

Why not say the update will be applied once the car is locked, rather than mid journey

I enjoy a frisson of excitement in life, but having to choose the Seat equivalent of russian roulette is getting very old. I've got one year left on this lease but, no matter how cheap the deal offered, I'm not coming back again.

No worries, other brands have the same issue.
The hosl is ti release update ASAP. But often there is a bug in it.

Big update should sideload. Then request when it can be updated.
12v battery is too weak for letting this be done overnight. So of you do not have an ev or phev. This means it can only be done by driving.
For example simple update for car map takes between 1 to 2hrs. Meaning the engine needs to run for that amount of time. Engine off means car will switch of in 10 to 30min. It goes to batterysleep mode.

But it should always ask for it. Same as Windows is doing

The point I'm trying to make is that I hit Cancel to the settings request, I didn't want to take the risk when starting a two hour trip, but it still broke everything until the car had been locked for an hour to reset.

That kind of stupidity is hard to comprehend in a deliberate design choice.

Indeed you should get a message regarding update is ready to be installed. Then it is up to you to let it install.

Atheist the problem is 12v lead acid battery is too weak for doing this. Meaning or you need to drive or you need ev that keeps the 12v on.
