Blimey! So how long could they stay in the air for before they needed to refuel?
Typical sortie was about 30-40 minutes. A spirited pilot could empty one in a bit less than 15 minutes. Plenty of tankers about for mid-air refueling back in the day. Actually the initial mark didn't have a refueling probe. They soon realised that it needed one and also additional ventral (belly) fuel tanks. Hence why the lightning always looks a bit "pregnant". Towards the end of their service they fitted the very ugly over wing tanks, which increased endurance to a couple of hours or so, but with marked reduction in G limits, hence why they were basically used for ferry flights only.

My other car is the Garage Queen a 40th Anniversary 230 bhp RX-8 my 4th RX-8 this one bought new in 2008 and now on 30K miles, only 200 were produced in Pearlescent Crystal White with Bilstein suspension, black and stone coloured leather upholstery and I still love driving this brilliant Rotary powered car.
Guy I deliver to has the exact same car - paintwork looks stunning in the sun!

My Formentor is a relatively thirsty 333ps, 0-60 in 4.6 sec high-tec beast.

My other motor is a tiny, 16-year-old, 55mpg, 68hp, 1.0L city car, 0-60 eventually, with no bling except for aircon.

It's actually a toss-up which one I prefer. I know which one I love (and it ain't the Cupra).

How about you?
Our other car is a '67' plate Citroen C3 1.2 hatch, which I bought for my missus when a year old,
but we both use it mostly for local journeys. Less than half the power of my Golf, but pulls well
for a N/A 1200 and hilariously sounds a bit like a Porsche flat 6 when revved hard, although the
chassis doesn't encourage mad B-road antics, being set-up more for nicely squashing bumps.

Passed every M.o.T. without advisories and only conked twice, one coilpack and the other time
clutch at 57K after 7 years of her abusing it. Just had it's 'terror-inducing' wet cambelt replaced
yesterday at 62K miles - the old one still had life in it, the tensioner/roller looked almost new.

Our eldest will start learning to drive soon, so it's likely to be handed-on later this year and
SWMBO has proclaimed she needs some convertible replacement, despite being informed that
most of the 4-seater ones are shite cars, along with often being pricier to buy and maintain.
