Do the mirror backs just pull off? I have an FR+ and would like to paint them the same colour as the rest of the car.

No I think there's a clip.
Depress the rear view mirror forward to facilitate the operations.
‒ → Place the mirror glass -2- upright (otherwise the housing would hit the glass on removal).
‒ Insert the screwdriver -5- as far as the clip -4- through the assembly hole of the basic mirror support.
‒ Press the screwdriver -5- in the direction of the arrow (this will loosen the clip -4- that fixes the mirror housing).
Extract the mirror housing -1- upwards from the basic mirror support -3-.
