I know a lot of ppl have done this, but I couldn't find a guide anywhere. I tried this today as apparently its an easy job to do. But it seems impossible as the driveshaft on the driver's side stops you being able to get a socket in there and there's no chance to get a spanner in as the top of the bolts are recessed. Am I missing something?

Has no-one done this themselves? I don't fancy paying £70 to get them fitted really :(

i have done this...i got the car up on a ramp... one side i managed to get a socket with a extension bar... the other side i got to it by putting the wheel on full lock giving a bit more room and then using a spanner (not the straight type, forgot the name of the other type...) this game me just enough leverage and space to undo the bolt... took a while tho

I think that you have to understand that you need to jack the car up with the suspension fully extended to reach one pipeclamp bolt and to lower the car or at least jack up the car under the suspension to fully compress the suspension to reach the other pipeclamp bolt. A strange thing happened to my wife's Polo after the VW garage changed her ARB - a front spring snapped a couple of days later - coincidence or was that due to me or the garage fully compressing the springs (I initially removed the pipeclamps but when I looked further into replacing the ARB I realised that four wheel re-alignment would be necessary - so I just buttoned it back up and booked it in to the dealer). So you have been warned about what can/might happen after you have fully compressed these springs - is they are original fit springs then I would expect that they were manufactured in CZ and that time and again has shown to be a very bad thing for the owner!
