The problems I'm experiencing are:

Intermittent loss of speedometer, when this happens the car feels a bit choppy and not as smooth as usual. The fuel gauge goes a bit crazy every now and again, often when turning sharply it suddenly drops to near zero triggering the light and beep.

I've been getting sudden loss of power where I lose all power for a second or two, a little bit worrying as it's happened at really bad moments! If I come off the accelerator or dip the clutch power usually returns.

The final thing is sometime when I try to start it, everything goes dead and there's no current at all. I have to pop the bonnet, wiggle the negative battery terminal and all the electrics reset.

Has anyone experienced anything similar relating to the faults and symptoms and can advise what I need to do to tackle these problems?

Thanks very much!

Right needs new brake light switch, check you actaully have them working.
Seems to have an abs sensor going as thats where speedo reads from, think its the front pass side.
The negative terminal id worry about car could poss have wrong battery as they should be tight and fit well and will be causing some odd faults
Looks like you have a split hose in the sencondry air system pcv system, check for split or collasped hoses.

Brake lights are working and the switch is fairly new (well a year or so), would it be likely to be going that soon?

The terminal fits tightly on the battery, it just seems to take a slight movement to cause electrics to come back on. I wondered if it were something to do with the ignition switch fault as it only occurs occasionally when I start ignition.

Can anyone confirm the front passenger side abs sensor for the speedo?

Hope this helps http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/16885/P0501/001281#Possible_Causes

I believe G22 sensor is a gearbox/transmission output speed sensor in this case though not familiar with your vehicle.

I did read that about the G22 sensor, can't find any named that for sale on Euro car parts or Ebay, does it have a more common name? Anyone able to post a link?

I think it's also refered to as a distance sensor, something like this I believe http://www.ebay.com/itm/AUDI-VW-VEHICLE-SPEED-CONTROL-SENSOR-1J0919149A-OEM-/300563531572. Although, I'd also be tempted to check for a bad earth around the battery. I've done a little bit of searching and this too could cause random electrical faults.
