Is it just me or are the speakers naff? Since owning the Cupra and the addition of tweeters in the rear doors it dont matter what im listening to i always hear the rear tweeter distorting - it's driving me mad!!

So im going to upgrade all the speakers. Are they 8" in the doors? i measure them to 21cm?

Anybody upgraded their's? I was once told the MK2 needed a "Box of tricks" it was called to add on to the headunit if an amp is needed.

Pioneer do some yellow 20cm's which i think would look pretty cool in my banana

In mine I upgraded the front to components, and in the rear I kept the standard speakers but put a massive low pass filter on them 150hz / 6dB I think. Disconnected the rear tweeters also.

Much better.

You should do a search on here about the water leaking into the cabin through the speakers though.
They are 165mm, front and rear, you will need adaptor to fit them - I think it's Autoleads part number SAK-3103, which need the lip removed to fit.
Removing the door cards is a job and a half. See my guide in the mk2 Leon FAQ section under "The Ultimate guide to fitting component speakers / removing door cards. "

So are 16.5 DIN correct then?

I would of thought they were simple. Assumption hey.

I have been thinking about disconnecting the rear tweeters - i was thinking that maybe there isnt anything behind them and thats what is causing the problems.

Those speakers are exactly the ones i have in my FR, replaced the awful stock ones 2 weeks after i got the Leon. I don't know much about fitting though, i got a good deal from a ICE centre, replaced all 4 for £140 and they fitted them for free too... Massive improvement, i was going to get an amp/sub but to be honest its good enough really for what i want...

Just remembered they had to get some kind of fittings (spacers?) cos i took in in twice and the first time they had to order them, again i got them free cos they cocked up!
