Hey Guys I need some inspiration, as my 180 Cupra has given me 7 years of great service, but now I'm looking at changing it for a newer model MK1.

Today I went to a local dealer, and found two great looking cars. One was a 55 plate Cupra R (31,000miles) in my favourite colour Black Magic, and a 05 plate FR 150 (26,000mls) again in Black Magic.

Took them both for a test drive. Loved the performance of the LCR, and the sound, but also liked the FR. The FR felt pretty good performance wise compared to my 180 Cupra.
It does kick out some smoke when hitting the pedal hard, but apparently this is normal with these engines compared to the clean burning MK2 FR's, which don't show much smoke at all. (Dealer quote)

They both look great with the body kits, but I can't decide yet!
LCR is £500 more, and both with 12mths warranty.

My heart says Cupra R, but my head says FR.

Ultimately it's down to economics, as obviously the diesel engine is going to be cheaper to run, insure, road tax etc... etc..., but I don't want to be thinking "should have gone for the LCR"

Any good and bad points with either of these models? - something to look out for????

I notice Stuart86's profile picture shows what looks like an FR, but seems to be a Tdi SE 110bhp. Looks great.

My Cupra 180 doesn't have the body kit, so either of the two models I've seen has the 'desired effect' from my point of view on looks alone.

FR or LCR?.........aaaghhh!!!

LCR; simply because you will never stop grinning; and when you do, remap it:)

Is it MPG your worried about?? no point in getting the LCR if your worried about MPG so i would say get the FR, its not as good looking as the LCR imo but still a lovely motor.
Both dont have that many miles on but check for overheating and ask if the water pump and cam belt have been done, they tend to go on the LCR at around the 50k mark but not sure if the FR has or had water pump issues

FR diesel with plenty torque potential versus LCR petrol with plenty rev potential.
Both of these cars are at the top end of their division so the choice is down to you.
IMO, LCR's are losing money fast while FR diesel's are still in high demand.
if you are a bit financially tight then get the FR, otherwise get the LCR.
FR TORQUE MONSTER OR LCR REV MONSTER.
the choice is going to be yours.

Now that is a good answer buddy ... I live in North Yorkshire... lots of hills and plus I drive 500 miles a week... FR TDI was only the way for me to go ... still smiling now ;)

lcrs are holding there money equally as good as all the other ranges its simply a buyers market and you can get a real bargain witch ever model you want ive switched from a mondeo st tdci 2.2 155 bhp to a leon cupra r 225 i put £25 in mondeo a week and now only put £20 a week in lcr i drove both hard and my round trip to work through the week is 18 miles a day ive put this down to petrol is shed loads cheaper than diesel so to get the best out of a diesel you have to do lots of miles hope my opinion helps

I love the torque so gotta be the FR for me.

LCR is as said a rev monster, but its not as usuable in every day life as the torque from an FR.

If you dont do many miles and would like to do some track days, I'd say LCR. If you like real life driving then gt the FR (thats not to say you couldn't take the FR on track days!)

LCR has plenty of torque as standard across rev range,2500-5500rpm so i wouldnt worry about that. You will get alot better mpg out of FR though if thats a concern, like doing alot of miles.I would think that 80% of the time on public roads then FR would be just as quick as LCR.
I wouldnt swap my LCR for one though!

The LCR is smooth to drive, and you don't have to put jungle juice in at the petrol station

jungle juice :cartman: .

sorry off topic: Mr Johnny B, I'll be keeping an eye out for you over christmas - my parents live in sudbury and I'm going home for christmas. Keep an eye out for a blue SE 110 flashing at you!!

How much are you influenced by how the car is viewed? The LCR will be looked at in a better light than the FR in general, but that would mean it could also be more of a target, depending on where you live

LCR all day every day, oh and LCR is a plain black not Black magic, LCR was not metalic paint!

Yes there is the option of black magic - I saw one and almost bought it as I liked the metallic paint! I went for plat silver in the end tho.
