Ibiza 1.4 Sport engine lag

Hi everyone,
I got an '06 Ibiza 1.4 Sport a few months ago and a small problem has come up since i bought it. When i go to accelerate, i put my foot down on the gas pedal (as most people probably do), but there is a small time of nothing between when i put my foot down and when the engine actually revvs. I did take the car for a servicing yesterday and told them about it but they might have ignored me, though they did replace the spark plugs and this didn't help. Any suggestions. I'm guessing, because most newer cars are all electrically run, it could have something do do with calibration and timings between the pedal and the engine?
Thanks,
James

Having read a few posts like this it does sound like it's a software issue, there was a fella on here with a 1.4 who had the same problem, got the software updated and it seemed to cure it

that was me lol, yeah i got the software update but i think this was only a problem with the 100hp varient? and it made a big improvement on response and how well it pulls on the motorway

ive got the 85hp model and i find that it does the same (throttle lag)
did you just take yours to a dealer and ask them to update the engine software?
sounds like an easy fix if so :)

well i just complained when my car was in for another issue that the response of the accelerator was poor and they just told me that they would update my software for me as this was known to happen on my engine. My car is still under warrenty so i think it will prob cost you if your not under warrenty

well apparently the issue can be with the 1.2 and the older 1.4s too, would be interesting if i could get it done on the cheap, would be nice to get a bit more response

just star with a recalibration of the electrical butterfly, you do that with VAGCOM. Sounds like a butterfly lag.

Software issue, maybe but not 100% sure of this.

It may be worth contacting them anyway bud, while they probably won't be able to install the software, if its a fault they should have to do something (in theory)

I have the exact same problem mate. Pull out of a junction ( usually when its cold outside), put my foot down and nothing happens and then randomly it will accelerate when it feels like it. I have been told to take it to a Engine Diagnostic machine at a garage?

I called up the garage about it cause i actually told them about it when i sent it for a service about a month ago and they said that they couldn't find anything wrong with it (even though it is completely blatant that something is wrong). They then told me that if it is a problem they could look at it (again) for me to give me piece of mind and then said that this is pretty much a characteristic of this version of the Ibiza!! Personally i can't believe that at all, even though this came from a SEAT garage!!

Right, I just bought a second hand Throttle body complete with throttle position sensor. Stuck it on the car, plugged it in, no difference made at all so I can officially say that it isn't the throttle body or throttle position sensor. I am determined to find out what the hell is going on here and the next thing for me to do is get it mapped I guess and see what happens there.

Would be interesting to hear if you get this sorted. I don't actually know what the software update did, but can only assume it was some sort of remap as the throttle response was much better and the car had more power overtaking on the motorway. Good Luck!
