Afternoon All,

I have my wedding coming up later this year to which I secured £1000 to hire a V8 mustang for a few days, but now I have my Cupra R I will be using the money to better my car before it gets swallowed into the pit that is a wedding fund...

My car as far as i'm aware is completely standard, I'm looking for ideas to get this money spent in the best way for future use.

My car is a 2010 FL Cupra R in Speed Blue with 19" black alloys and 33k on the clock.

Things I had in mind...

Anti Lift Kit
Revo Stage 1 Map
Revo Intake
Brake Upgrade (towards it anyway)
Exhaust (not too loud)

Any thoughts would be great

Cheers

I love my anti-lift kit. When I drove it home afterwards, I found I was eg bracing myself against the seat when braking and leaning forward whilst accelerating unnecessarily. Just because I'd gotten so used to moving against the car.

Stage 1 is also well worth it. I went with the Revo intake (non ceramic to save a bit). Love the sound of it and its needed for Stage 2. But didn't really notice much in the way of performance.

Um, you may consider a dog bone mount. Reduces wheel hop. More agressive pick up of power. But don't got with the cheap rubber ones (I did power flex and removed it after 2 weeks). The vibratechnics one doesn't vibrate the cabin at all.

You'll also find and I think its Milltek, then insist on the dogbone mount to warranty the exhaust. But think that might be for the down pipe section, not the catback. So would need to check on that.

I've always found the Cupra brakes overly sharp. I know many may disagree with me. But at Stage 2, I still use the factory calipers / discs / pads. Just my personal opinions.

Thanks for the reply,

I think I may end up with an Anti lift kit and the Revo Stage 1. Maybe squeeze in the SPS addon...

With regards to the Intake did you find it makes it more sporty or more chavy lol I must say the last time I looked at one was in my 1.2 Punto with a cheap K&N filter haha I assume I would need to loose the engine cover for a Revo intake?

I love the standard brakes, it does make my journey in the other half's car quite dangerous though as hers are rubbish in comparison lol

As for the Dog bone mount I haven't had any wheel hop as of yet... I don't tend to give it everything from start, it's more of an "erm what do you think your doing in that" and seeing someone off lol

Cheers

I've got a BCS downpipe & 200 cell sports cat, neuspeed p-flo kit and a Stage 2 APR map.

As mentioned, the brakes are pretty fantastic in my opinion and they have plenty of stopping power so I've not touched those in terms of upgrades. The power is ridiculous, it's great for overtaking and joining a motorway etc, but it gets to 60-70mph so quickly and effortlessly that to me, it's almost a waste as I can't go any faster.

You don't necessarily need a cat back system, it's the downpipe and cat that are the most restrictive part of the exhaust so you can save a bit there and just get those parts. I got all my parts at a discount and still came to just under a grand, so not cheap. Plus it increases your insurance premium slightly.

Thanks for the reply buddy,

What sort of sound difference did you get with these parts? I live in quite a close knit street and loud exhausts may cause issues at my 6am starts haha

I don't mind spending just over a grand if it's all worth it lol

Cheers

There's practically zero sound difference with downpipe and cat, a very subtle throaty noise with the CAI but that's only under heavy throttle. I've got the stock cat-back system so it's very discreet, no difference unless you're starting it backed up against a wall or garage door, then you can hear it a lot more, it's quite deep and bassy.

Hmm, I think I'd have to vote chavy. There was a Corsa this morning riding through Tescos car park and I thought "oh sh1t is that what my car sounds like?". As for performance. I think from much reading it basically removes some power low down and puts it in high up. So not convinced of its use for Stage 1. But 2 and higher its a requirement.

Same with the brakes. I hate driving anyone elses car. Then get back in mine and almost throw myself through the windscreen.

Don't forget, the dogbone mount may also be a requirement for the exhaust warranty. Summat to do with preventing flex that puts more pressure on the exhaust.

From awesomegti:
"Many exhaust manufacturers also advise these as a necessary upgrade when fitting a performance downpipe."

Edited:

"To preserve the warranty of this component, it MUST be fitted in conjunction with an upgrade torque arm mount, or insert. Please ask our staff for details."

Many exhaust manufacturers state this because their downpipes don't have sufficient flex. Instead of sorting the issue they've passed it on to the consumer. Nice.

Hi,
If you found you had any issues with insurance then please feel free to drop me a line.
Regards,
Dan.

Cheers Dan,

I think I will be going for Stage 1 Revo - £500 with the SPS Addon - £99, followed by the anti lift kit £250 fitted ish, then it looks like I may get the latest Ross Tech VCDS cable at £225 as I sold my old one with the previous car.

Just over £1000 but should be all good, until next time haha

Cheers
