£1300 fuel pump!

they must be having you on check gsf for the part and get it done by compitent garage if the part is £250 then they are charger you £1050 for labour they are having a laugh i get get an engine bought and fitted for less that thatI'm with Seatmann, some diesel fuel pumps are ridiculously expensive. More than a grand is taking the pee though.
tell them you'll just ride your unicorn instead 
i would guess probably been quoted for the main engine mounted high pressure distributor pump on the older style motor not a piddly electric one in the tank
those old style pumps are a £1k+ new /£500+ exchange or so hell sometimes double that, just ask a zafira diesel driver
if you let me know the car details/engine code ill look up the numbers and see what else has it fitted as they are around flea-bay for £100+ or so second hand if you look about

yeah, that's the fella's. I've seen a few cars on Ebay being ridiculously cheap, and I smile when I see 'just needs a new fuel pump'...
as has been said if its the high pressure fuel pump in the engine bay they £1300 sounds about right if its the primer pump in the tank then that is a massive rip off
There's a lesson to be learnt by all here, nothing on a car it out of antbirds reach to DIY, Yes you must know what your doing from a safety point of view, but times are changing with added financial woes impacting our passion and hobby the only way we can continue is to give it a go ourselves, never trust a dealer or garage on prices source the part yourself if need be, but have a go yourself you may suprise yourself with how easy stuff is to do, the only thing I pay other people to do is an MOT and Tyre fitting the rest over the years I've learnt to do and I have saved a small fortune! I can't imagine entrusting my money to a garage or dealership makes me feel sick thinking about it! In all seriousness just start to build a tool base, there are loads of how to guides on many forums for just about anything pick the right day take plenty of time and GIVE IT A GO!

the bosch fuel pump is around £700 notes to buy i believe and the rest is labour.... the same pump on a 307 pug cost my m8 £1400 as they have to take the engine out to do it... all the vauxhall and 1.4 pugs and ford diesels have them...
so if you buy 1 of these models to save money on fuel thats all very well but 1 bill at £1300 quid turns that in to expensive motoring you may as well buy a range rover to run lol
