01 Ibiza Cupra not starting - have searched already

This is my first post on here but I've been visiting the forum since I got my Cupra back in February

It's a 01 Silver Ibiza Cupra (engine code AQX)
As far as I know it's mechanicly standard apart from been chipped.

I've done a search on here and found some threads with advice on what to check and have carried out most of the checks but it still refuses to start. I drove it to work earlier this week without any problems - the car has been faultless for the past couple of months.
When I went to start it in the evening it just cranked over with no sign of it even trying to fire.

I've checked the fuel pump relay 167 - it's clicking on with the ignition and so appears to be fine, I've even taken the cover off the realy and watched it operate when the ignition is switched on.
Also have checked all the relevant fuses - no fuses blown under the dash or on the distribution board on top of the battery.

I've run a feed from the battery to the fuel pump and tested it - the pump will run and the fuel is getting to the fuel rail.

I've also used this live feed to set the fuel pump running and turned the car over on the ignition - it still doesn't fire

I've disconnected the battery for a couple of hours and then reconnected it in case it was an immobiliser issue but still no joy.

Checked that the timing belt isn't snapped, it's fine.

I haven't been able to check for a spark yet or haven't checked the crank position sensor

Anything else I can check or any pointers to lead me in the right direction??

I get this same problem now and again....only happens on rare occasions and after a while it does start. Started happening ages ago and had it on vagcom before and i think something came up about the crank sensor. Meeting someone on sunday with vagcom so hoepfully i can find out whats wrong.

I know the ECU is in abit of a silly position as its prone to getting wet. Have you checked it?
Its under the plastic covers under the windscreen (kinda infront of the steering wheel)

I found mine coverd up in a binbag!

Alex, you are a genius - just went out and checked the connectors into the ECU - some of the pins had signs of water on them - cleaned up the pins reconnected the ECU and it fired up straight away

Cheers :funk:
