02M gearbox housing corrosion

From experience i'd say it looks like the passive electroplate on the bolts has started to break down due to either poor quality plating in the first plate (not unusual), or there has been exposure to one or more corrosive substances (definate there with salt on the roads and all sorts of other nasty stuff deposited on the tarmac), also parking on newly laid concrete will really corrode the underside or yr car.... and quickly too).

However yr gearbox casing looks normal with no major oxidisation of the surface, (other than the thin layer that seals the surface naturally) except for some slight carry-over around a couple of the bolt heads, which is migration from the bolt.

The damage to the bolts is really more cosmetic than anything and yr torque settings will be fine. However if u can get the dealer to swop them out I would, if only for aesthetic reasons.

Could be a dodgy batch of plating as all your bolts appear to be effected... it does happen.

I've even experienced it before with a factory where hundreds of the cladding bolts had to be replaced due to a failure of the plating. In that case the corrosion started to migrate under the plastic coating on the panels around the bolts.
