I don't get it, why are my figures so different to everyone else?

I don't live in the city, so don't do a lot of start/stop but my driving is mostly on b roads mixed in with a few a's everynow and again. That can't make that much of a difference can it?

Yes it does! When I go back to my parents in SE Kent I get 45-50 with far less traffic while in Epsom (Surrey) I can often only get 37-38mpg, which I would put down to traffic.

I've never managed to get anywhere near the stated figures! I can get about 340 miles from a tank full.

I have got the 1.4 Ibiza Sport, i was getting worried that there was something wrong with it, because the fuel consumption was really poor, was getting at the most 330 miles on a tank full. I had the car serviced in March and now the most i can get is 345 miles to a tank full. Either they have small petrol tanks or its a problem with the Seat in general, my husband has got a peougot 308 sport and he can get around 450 miles on a tank full!!!:wtf:

That's not really a fair comparison, the Ibiza has a 45L fuel tank and the 308 has a 60L tank. With an extra 3.3 gallons in the tank you would expect the Peugeot to go a bit further.
Yes i have just found out that the tank sizes are different and i have should have known, so no its not a very fair comparison. I have also just found out that when the light beeps for low fuel, i have still got another 7 litres of fuel left in, but i have always worried that i am going to run out and filled it up, as it doesnt tell me how many miles i have got left in it, so i might be able to get more out of it than i previously thought!!!:)

So if you are getting 345 miles from 38 litres, you are doing about 40mpg. Is that about what you thought it was doing.

No i didnt think i was even doing that much, i am not that clued up on things like that, but is that good or bad i dont know??

Not sure, don't know what your car should get. There are some members with diesel cars not getting much more than forty though, so I think it can't be that bad. I'd be happy with an average 40mpg from a 1.4 petrol car, but I am easy pleased.....lol

Ok thanks, i have found out some useful information today about my car, thanks to the forum and yourself, may speak to you again some time. thanks again

Deb's, one of the read-outs on the multi function display does actually tell you the approximate range left in the tank :)

I dont have the multi function on my car, its only a standard sports 05 plate:cry:

I picked up my 1.2 TSI brand new in November. Took ages to get decent fuel economy. I worked out that I now get about 58MPG.
40 Litres of diesel and get about 500 miles to that or there abouts. Price of fuel £1.37 a litre

Cant complain about it at all, so far so good and my Learners love it

Surely you meant the 1.2 TDI diesel. This thread is about the 1.2 TSI petrol!

I picked up my new 5 door Ibiza 1.2 TSI sport (manual box) the saturday before last brand new from my local dealership. So far the car has been great, seems nice and quick (still running it in so driving like a nun) but I have noticed that I've been getting pretty poor mpg.

Over the last two weeks I have been driving to work and back over about 9 miles each way. The route is a mix of dual carriageway and normal urban roads, and I probably average around 15mph over the whole route as there is two spots of stop/start traffic.

Over the last couple of weeks my average mpg has been around the 36mpg mark which I thought was pretty poor when compared to a stated urban figure of 45 and a combined cycle of 55mpg as per seat's marketing material.

After having a chat with my boss who owns a golf 1.4tsi (similar engine as I understand to the Ibiza) he reckons he gets around 45-47mpg on average, meaning the brochure figures of 55mpg should be realistically achievable and making me think something is perhaps wrong with my new car?

So essentially I am wondering whether something is wrong with the car, the brochure figures are way off (seems unlikely) or the mpg is just poor as the car is being run in and will improve dramatically over the next few hundred miles?

Any advice from 1.2 TSI owners would be great, especially those who picked their cars up from brand new!

Just finished my 1st tank off got 45.3mpg and predicted range of 445 miles. reckon i can improve that when its run in.
