Hi all
has anyone experienced high oil consumption with this little engine - i had yellow warning sign both after 5,800 miles in August from new (got car in April) and again at 8675 just last week.
Took it to my dealers last Saturday but no faults were found on the computer so am puzzled as Castrol Edge 5/30 oil is not cheap at £20 a litre and on both ocassions it needed 750 ml.
Any comments and views would be much appreciated

The issue is that usage is going to be deemed acceptable due to its lasting 4-5k till it needs topping up. I've not heard any stories of the 1.2 using a horrific amount. All turbo cars will use oil but will vary how much. The hand book will say what they deem unacceptable if it's more than that seat will fix it. Sadly if not you will have to live with it. You may never know it may slow down as your car is still going through the "breakin" phase.

I would buy oil from euro car parts as it its a lot cheaper than the dealer.

I religiously check mine after every fill up as the 1.4tsi in the Ibiza Cupra likes to use it.

My first service was at 5000 miles and the oil was on the lowest mark. Might settle down once it's bedded in. Also you get a free 1 litre if you book your first dealer Service on line

You really need to check Oil levels Monthly at least My Golf only 1.4 engine has oil usage at 20000 mile the first time I got caught out while l having a free check at only 1800 mile garage had to put half ltr in
I think all these engines use oil

euro car parts is far and away the best place to buy good branded oil at a discount. Sign up for their newsletters and you can get castrol Edge 5/30 at a good price, sometimes a "while stocks last" deal at about £30 for 5 ltrs.
delivered. worth looking out for a deal:)

if you look on the ibiza thread for the 1.2tsi there were tons and tons of oil problems with high usage. not sure how similar the leon and ibiza 1.2tsi are but imagine they are close!

Hi, ive had my 1.2 Leon since April 2013. I check the oil level regularly and have never had to top it up....usage seems minimal

Thanks for this post! I've just checked my oil after 1100 miles (3 months) and it's only showing a quarter full! I noticed a slightly noisy start over the last couple of weeks so will make sure she's gets a drink of castrol every couple of months ;) is this the best oil too use?
Thanks!

Castrol edge5/30 seems to be one of the best you can get, but I do recall a post a while back where someone in the know (worked for an oil company I think) reckoned a Mobil oil was the best he'd seen for reducing wear.
might be worth searching threads.
or just buying Castrol.

check euro car parts website, Jay - just put up a few offers on quality oils!

I have always used Halfords own brand fully synthetic oils (they do specific ones for VW/SEAT, Ford etc) as reccommended by my meccanic mate, and when it's on offer the price is unbeatable, remember it's only for top ups between services. They meet all the requirements of the brands and have the correct numbers on so you get the right one, don't try to use cheaper SAAB one in a VW car though.

Mine is now on 12k and is 1 year 8 months old.

I've just had to top up the oil by 1.5l oddly enough it was January 2014 on about 6k that I had to top up also.

I've also had plenty petrol/diesel turbos before and never had to top oil between services, is this a modern car thing?

Well this seems strange. My car has just ticked over 9000 miles, had it since new in June, and it literally hasn't used a drop. I check about once a month and the level has stayed completely constant...

Perhaps it has more to do with how it's driven?
