Hey there,

My friend just bought an Ibiza ST 1.2 around a month ago, and now there's a weird sound coming from the engine. I believe he said he kind of overdrove when the DSG got stuck on a certain gear.

The weird thing is, the sound only happens when the car is static and on the N gear. It's not very loud, but it's very noticeable. It's sort of like a loose screw or something that keeps hitting something, but it's not that. He can hear the sound coming from the right side (in front of the passenger seat).

We opened the hood and this is the part that's making a sound:

I highlighted it by a red circle so you can see exactly which part I am talking about.

By the way, he went to the dealership and they told him that something is going to be replaced but after it comes from Spain, and they also told him that there's an update available for the turbo but they are also waiting for the software from spain, or something like that. I have a Seat as well and I really don't trust the dealerships in Egypt because a lot of the time they don't know what they're doing, so I thought the right thing is to take opinions from people who are actually Seat owners and are experienced with that.

Thank you very much. Any help is appreciated.

Unfortunately I have never had the oppertunity to poke around the engine bay of one of these but if that is the fuel pump then it more than likely is starting fail and that is the what the dealer is waiting for, a replacement. Understandable that there would be an ECU update as I am sure they connected to the seat network and the order would come from seat about any recals that need to be dealt with. Sorry I couldn't be of more help mate but I am sure some one here will maybe have a more difinitive answer for you.

Yup, that's the high pressure fuel pump. It's fed by the low pressure pump in the rear of the car and supplies the fuel rail which in turn supplies the injectors.

Thank you very much, mate. Your help is appreciated. And yes, I'm guessing it had to do with the ECU as well. Hopefully they can manage it without screwing anything up. That's what the warranty is for anyway!

Thank you. Is that like a sensitive/delicate part which could screw up anything if not replaced properly? And what could be the cause of its failure? As I said above, the car is less than a month old, so that's pretty weird.

No, not really; parts usually fail early on ("infant mortality") or else much later when they wear out.

I'd have thought that the dealer ought to be able to replace it without putting anything else at risk. I suppose they need to ensure they don't allow any dirt to get in which might clog or damage the injectors - I'm no expert however.

please help me guys

Hi Tarek,

i'm about to buy a new ibiza TSI 1.2, the sound of the engine is noisy and just like u described it, it's still in the agency, brand new, so have you figured out what this could be,

i feel like i should buy the 1600 cc instead in order to avoid the TSI problems (i'm worried after hearing that sound) but the 1.2 TSI performance is enticing and that's why i want it more!

in separate note, what about the DSG gearbox, i hear a lot of talking about its problems, could you please advise?

Many Thanks,
