I phoned round a few tuning companies and they have all said they can do it no problem with noticable gains.

Was wondering if anyone has had a go at it? Would be very interesting to see what gains could be achieved.

between 180-190hp from the 150 COD engine i believe, even if you went down the route of plug and play tuning box.
They all quote the same kind of gains.

My mate has the polo with the 150 and has a plug and play fitted and the difference from stock is very good.

Just looked up some plug and play tuning boxes and u r all spot on as expected. Would go up to roughly 183bhp and 305nm.

I must admit, im a tad naive when it comes to tuning....what would be better? Remap or box?

Their is something about attaching a tuning box that makes me feel uneasy, don't know why.

That's about the figures I was quoted from DTUK for one of their boxes.

My last 1.4 had 180bhp, but it did have a supercharger as well as the turbo. Shame the twincharger isn't made any more as it was a wonderful engine (despite the first one needing a rebuild and the second one replacing).

The benefit of a tuning box (the DTUK one, anyway), is you can tweak it - all the extra, none or some as you see/feel - plus it can be removed in minutes for servicing/warranty work and even resused on another car so has a second hand value.

Or you could try a tuning box from TDI Tuning.
Ring them and talk to Steve,
I've had great results with this company!

Nothing to worry about with boxes. Guys on the VWROC forum are running golf r and s3 rs3 s4 rs6 with the DTUK systems fitted without any issues at all apparently.

Cant imagine there would be any difference in mpg if your driving it normally but when your giving it large so to speak it will probs be a little less than normal.

Mmm, interesting. The problem is I'm in Spain so not sure if that will pose a problem. I also haven't got a Leon yet as I'm still waiting to see what's going to happen to my Ibiza that's one of the 'conned' models. Thanks VW!

Thats really good to know. Again, I must admit my mechanical knowledge is very limited....if i purchased a tuning box, how does it connect to the car? To the ECU somehow??

the DTUK box has fly off connectors that (I'm guessing) will plug into the stock connectors at points such as turbo pressure / air flow / air temp / coolant temp to 'bias' the reading to allow greater / less flow putting the standard ECU into a bit of a correction map to allow the increase of power output. that's my understanding of the 'box' type units anyway
unless you damage the connectors, I doubt SEAT will be able to tell once its removed
