hi, does anyone know the std 1/4 mile times of the cupra, cupra R and cupra tdi? also the terminal speeds, just as a guide to see how much quicker they will be than my chipped hdi! which does 16.5 @85mph,

id be hoping for less than 15.5 from a std tdi 150? is this reasonable?

will a stripped out, ie rear seats spare etc whith box/ chip see less than 15? wanna have a scare of a few of my gti 6 mates @ york if possible !!

thanks

no chance of it getting 15.5 as standard - no chance at all, never ever ever.

No

god im shocked about that!

my mate toms 206 hdi used to do regualr 15.2s at york with the interior(now got a fabia rs but not run it yet), gti6s doing about 15.3 and 306 rallyes/ 205 mi16s doing 14.7!!

not gonna be as quick as i was hoping then, ah well mid range will make up im sure!

im sure a lad on uk mkivs ran a 14.9 with a anii 150 tdi at york last year, tunning box on i think! and they have 18s dont they? is there a big weight difference between the leon/ golf mk 4?

cheers

so about the wieght of the interior/spare/ jack /washer fluid + anything else that will remove easily lol then i reckon,

diesel car quoted a 0-60 time of 7.5, this was where i was getting my 15.5 figure from, as toms timed 0-60 was 7.2(app22 calibrated at york) with a 1/4 of 15.2, so i thought a 15.5 would be acheivable!

what do reckon then lionR for a std 1/4 16 dead? or nearer my own 16.5?

cheers

LOL

Unfortunately it doesnt work that way with 0-60 times, the 0-100 (which Diesel car fails to print) are far more telling, with standard sports diesels like the Iibiza TDi Sport, Leon Cupra TDi and Golf GT TDi both coming in at well over 20 seconds.

They are superb in gear times but a lengthy run of more than 50mph tends to show their weekness. When chipped these engines are a different storym then you might get them to do 15 second 1/4 mile runs.

All that torque just isnt getting converted to power well enough yet, give it a few more years of development and they will be rvving much better.

i dont see the point of striping your car out for the 1/4 mile run, cos when in normal day to day driving, your going have the full weight, you tell people your car can do a 1/4 mile time of x, but its not a true reflection of that cars performance on the road everyday.

whats the point of it?

i see where you are coming from dave, but the point is, the only time i drive my cars so they would get the time i may or may not state is at york dragway, with mates who have all done exactly the same things to their cars, in most cases i leave in the spare and just remove the seat bases, parcel shelf etc!

during the week, i just do the 120 mile motorway round trip to work, not hammering it away from standing starts, im a firm beliver in driving reasonably sensable on the roads, and getting the most from my 15p/mile from work lol, i save that for my monthly stint at york, when we all strip our cars, the prepperation etc of taking bits off is part of the fun of it for me,!

so for me my time is relevant, because, i only 1/4 mile at the strip, and thats when its stripped!, and so are most other cars, atleast the group i attend with!

good point about 0-100, toms aint that great to 100, but his wieght is well down on the leon, by about 200kg!

cheers

ps, im not saying that any of you dont drive senibly on the roads, this forum seems to be very mature, infact you are probbably of the impression that im abit of a boy racer doing the 1/4 mile thing, (it doesnt help having the fia european street legal champion living next door, see www.audiracing.co.uk , 1/4 in about 8secs at 160 odd mph lol)

i could always put some neon washerjets and a fast as fcuk sticker on the tdi, then its sure to do a 14:D :D ;)

cheers

Times

Funny this should be threaded today as I did my CupraR times this weekend on both 1/4 mile and 0-60 and 60-0.

My best where 0-60 in 6.785 secs and 1/4 mile in 14.545 secs (needs improvement) but they can get better as soon as I get my lauch tequnique down to a T. With T/C on it bogs down horribly, with T/C off it spins up too long before getting grip so I need to find a good interim. Yes book time are differnet, yes mags stay differnt things but I know what I have done in my 220bhp car - seen the readings myself (soo if anyone is gonna start a Auto Car / Express / What Car quoting bit saying the book only says 7.2 for Std etc please dont bother.....

At the end of the day if you want to get your 1/4 mile times good get down to a stip and get planty on lauch practice, know where to change gear etc. or get yourself a dash mounted G force gizmo which are 99.9% accuarte if set up correctly.

Good luck with the timings everyone and dont be disappointed if you get crap times to start with as with time your reaction speed, lauch and 60fts times will only get better and better.

PMSL @ some of the times in this thread!!!

A 206 HDi running a 15.2?! lololololol, please dont even try to pass that as being a time from a standard car! its going to be more like 18/19seconds!

also the "my car does 0-60 in such and such times"..... lol, what did you time that on the stop watch on your phone?!!?!? ;) :p

Q/T

Couldnt agree more about stripping out the bits n bobs to save weight on ye car for the sprint timings - dont bother, stick to real world times and speeds and then you know what ya got when your off the track. Leave the ICE, spare, passengers in if you choose - do the sprints as you would on the road - easy peesy.

Timings are so varible, depends on so many varables such as atmsophere temps, road quclity and dryness and temp, tyre codition, gear box changes, driver experience.

I tried my car with one of those G force meter thingys and got 1/4 mile: 16.63 @ 86.9mph 0-60: 8.35sec (its a 110bhp tdi with tuning box). could prob get times slightly lower than that with a good start but i was happy enough with those figures and wasnt prepared to put any extra stress on the car trying many more runs.
